Russia’s Ambassador to the UK, Andrei Kelin, has claimed that Ukraine’s army is “close to critical,” saying combat units are less than half-staffed and “retreating every day.”
In a Channel 4 interview, Kelin said Western support is “wearing out Ukraine,” echoing Moscow’s Defense Ministry, which on October 5 reported over 1,300 Ukrainian soldiers killed in a single day of fighting.
The Russian MoD said its forces struck Ukrainian defense plants and power infrastructure with precision Kinzhal missiles.
While the figures cannot be independently verified, the timing of both statements underscores Moscow’s coordinated message that Ukraine’s army is collapsing and Western aid is only prolonging defeat.
