That's the forecast from an article online yesterday about stakeholders from throughout the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) community writing a letter to Trump – from manufacturers to business users to government officials – urged the creation of a pilot program for state and local governments to work with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to integrate UAS into the skies above their communities.
The letter, led by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), details the importance of federal control of the airspace and outlines a pilot program to get input from states and municipalities to develop policy on UAS operations.
"Industry-government collaboration is critical to identifying common solutions to the industry’s greatest challenges, such as airspace integration” said AUVSI president and CEO Brian Wynne.

Arizona UAS Summit Adds Tour of Polytechnic School at ASU to Program Agenda

Mesa, AZ – (October 11, 2017) – – Last week, the 2nd Annual Arizona UAS Summit & Expo announced they have added an industry tour to the program agenda. The specialized tour is designed specifically for the attendees of the Arizona UAS Summit and will provide opportunities for attendees to visit with the brightest and best researchers, faculty, students and experts at the award-winning Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at the Polytechnic School on the campus of Arizona State University.

AUSA 2017: US Army eyes Nightwarden

Alongside showcasing its Nightwarden UAS to the US Army for the first time at AUSA, Textron has also made gains with its Shadow V2 upgrade programme.
The company said that Nightwarden had been well received by the service during the event and questions had been asked regarding when the company could be production ready with the Fury weapon system payload.
When asked, Bill Irby, senior VP of unmanned systems, could not confirm to Shephard when this would be, however the Nightwarden UAS itself has been production ready since its launch.
The new UAS, unveiled for the first time at Paris Air Show 2017, is shown at AUSA equipped with two Textron Fury guided weapons. . . UAVOS enhances GPS spoofing protection for UAVs

UAVOS has improved the GPS spoofing identification algorithms for its UAVs, protecting against jamming by the most advanced electronic warfare (EW) systems, the company announced on 9 October.
During the test flights, UAS were equipped with an automatic control system that steadily resisted attempts to interfere with the operation of the on-board GPS autopilot.
According to Vadim Tarasov, UAVOS investor and board member, in a GPS denied envrionment, the UAVOS measures against GPS and other GNSS signals spoofing attacks allows the timely disabling of the GPS navigation and a switch to autonomous flight with onboard integrated inertial navigation system.
The advanced UAVOS countermeasure system ensures the protection of unmanned aircraft, increases survivability and the efficiency of the UAV.
An UAV equipped with a complex of countermeasures against EW systems allows them to return to base and carry out its mission with navigation error of 1.2–2.5 miles per flight hour.
Vadim Tarasov said: ‘The GPS spoofing attack countermeasure system is the result of many years of systematic work by UAVOS in the field of EW countermeasures.
‘Test flights of our unmanned vehicles showed the effectiveness of the mission accomplishment in conditions of a complex interference and the invulnerability of unmanned vehicles to the latest generation EW systems.’

Airbus Helicopters has delivered the U.S. Army’s 400th UH-72A Lakota helicopter, fulfilling its contract requirements to date by delivering every aircraft on time, on budget and meeting the Army’s rigorous quality standards.
“From the moment when the Army awarded Airbus the contract to produce the UH-72A, our team has strived daily to deliver on our promises to the Army, to the dedicated soldiers who operate these aircraft, to the U.S. government and the taxpayers,” said Chris Emerson, President of Airbus Helicopters Inc. “We have produced a superb aircraft that meets the Army’s requirements and quality standards, and we have also delivered on our promise to provide outstanding support to keep the Army’s Lakotas flying and ready to perform vital missions.” 
 . . .The UH-72A is proudly made in America, assembled at the Airbus Helicopters Inc. facility in Columbus, Miss. by a workforce that is more than 40 percent U.S. military veterans.
Selected by the U.S. Army in 2006 following a rigorous evaluation, the UH-72A is the Army’s lowest cost twin-engine helicopter to buy, own and operate. As part of its Aviation Restructuring Initiative, the Army selected the Lakota for its Initial Entry Rotary Wing Training program at Fort Rucker. The U.S. Naval Test Pilot School also operates the Lakota in a training role. 
Since the Lakota’s introduction, the Army and National Guard units have flown more than 460,000 hours with Airbus Helicopters Inc. providing materiel support that exceeded all of the contract requirements.
In December 2016 the Army awarded Airbus Helicopters Inc. a five-year Contractor Logistics Support valued at nearly $1 billion. Airbus Helicopters Inc. will provide the support at Army and National Guard bases in 43 states, including Fort Rucker, and in Kwajalein, Guam, Puerto Rico and Germany.

WASHINGTON — Richard H. Thaler, whose work has persuaded many economists to pay more attention to human behavior, and many governments to pay more attention to economics, was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences on Monday.

Professor Thaler is the rare economist to win a measure of fame before winning the prize.

 

He is an author of a best-selling book, “Nudge,” about helping people to make better decisions. He also appeared in the 2015 film “The Big Short,” delivering what is surely one of the most widely viewed tutorials in the history of economics, on the causes of the 2008 financial crisis.

The Nobel committee, announcing the award in Stockholm, said that it was honoring Professor Thaler for his pioneering work in establishing that people are predictably irrational — that they consistently behave in ways that defy economic theory. People will refuse to pay more for an umbrella during a rainstorm; they will use the savings from lower gas prices to buy premium gasoline; they will offer to buy a coffee mug for $3 and refuse to sell it for $6.

The committee credited Professor Thaler, who teaches at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, for moving economics toward a more realistic understanding of human behavior, and for using the resulting insights to improve public policies, notably a sweeping shift toward the automatic enrollment of employees in retirement savings programs.

“In order to do good economics, you have to keep in mind that people are human,” Professor Thaler said at a news conference after the announcement.
