Mapping 24 Hours of Highway Traffic, Visualized as a Living Circulatory ...

Published on Sep 26, 2016

Highway networks are often compared to the human circulatory system. And the analogy works on many levels.

The hierarchical structure of highways, streets, and local roads matches the that of our body's arteries, veins, arterioles, venules, and capillaries. And like the circulatory system, highways serve as the infrastructure by which resources are distributed to keep the system healthy and allow it to grow.

The analogy also works visually, as demonstrated by this map. The width of each section in the map represents the average traffic for each hour of the day across the U.S. Interstate.

Who Does This Bite The Most?

Bite of the day

A top Republican source close to congressional leadership tells Jonathan Swan:
"Today's the best day they're going to have on this bill. Everything ahead is hurdles."
Be smart: The Republican tax plan has angered key lobby groups with all the pots of money being used to pay for tax cuts. Now, Washington starts picking it apart.
  • How it's playing ... N.Y. Times 2-column lead, "TAX PLAN IN HOUSE SEEKS BROAD CUTS, MOST FOR BUSINESS," with twin analysis: "Aid to Middle Class May Be Fleeting."
P.S. In a big shakeup for the White House press corps, Politico scoop machine Josh Dawsey moves to WashPost, per CNN's Dylan Byers.

Always Nice To Have A Friend Named TED

Yes it is.
There are times when your MesaZona gets overwhelmed (or otherwise distracted) by visuals, but of course there's a place and time for visuals in other circumstances.
Some times yours truly likes to "tune-in" to just the sounds from a radio to listen:
Maslow's Human Needs
Humans need food, sleep, safety, love, purpose. Psychologist Abraham Maslow ordered our needs into a hierarchy. This week, TED speakers explore that spectrum of need, from primal to profound.

Don't tell me this is TLDL - Too Long Didn't Listen.

The hour-long program is available in shorter segments as you can see below.
