Local First Arizona Wants You To Take Action On Taxing Online Sales

Got the following message in an inbox 16 hours ago, so will pass it along to readers of this blog. It's from Thomas Barr, the Executive Director of Local First Arizona about what he calls "an urgent legislative matter".
There are many other urgent issues in front of the Arizona State Legislature in a barrage of bills presented in the current session. This one may or may not appeal to you to address one imbalance in Arizona's tax code for collecting TPT/Sales Taxes.
Arizona lawmakers are now considering HB 2702, legislation that would require out-of-state online retailers and marketplace facilitators (like eBay) to collect sales tax on products purchased by Arizona consumers. It should be noted that micro-sellers and hobbyists are exempt from the proposal. 37 states have already taken steps to ensure basic tax equity between in-state and out-of-state retailers. Nationally, Arizona is now among just eight states with a sales tax that haven’t taken action.
Please feel free to contact Mr. Barr should you have any clarifying questions about this bill at 602-956-0909 Ext 3.

Call for AZ Business Leaders to Level the Playing Field
Hi Tim,
As a trusted advocate of local businesses, I'm writing to you today about an urgent legislative matter and an opportunity to speak up on behalf of Arizona's local businesses.
As you know, we’ve been working for years to address the imbalance in Arizona’s tax code. Currently, local Arizona businesses are required to collect and remit sales tax, while out-of-state online competitors are exempt. . .

Lawmakers constantly say they support small business...this is their chance to prove it. Here's what you can do. Look up and contact your area legislators and let them know you support HB 2702.
Below is a list of target lawmakers. If they represent your district, please consider contacting them as soon as possible.

MORE ON MICHAEL COHEN
The Trump inaugural appears to have overpaid for space at Trump’s Washington hotel, a possible violation of the law. Federal prosecutors are probing the festivities.
As the inaugural committee planned the landmark celebration, internal concerns were raised about whether Trump’s Washington hotel was overcharging for event space. The spending could be a violation of the law.

Resignations Revealed at Hacienda Healthcare

More stunning news in streams of reports over the recent resignation of Rick Romley where something appears to be really rotten. Something 'fishy' about all this?
Hacienda Healthcare is becoming more than 'a household name' now after streams of more stories jump out in local and national media where more fallouts follow sensational revelations about an incapacitated woman who was raped at the Intermediate Care Facility, a 24-bed, 20,900-square-foot hospital, at Country Club and Baseline Road here in Mesa, and later gave birth to a baby boy.
Right from the start, details were scant and slow to get revealed - that's suspicious. More so when Nancy Salmon, the VP of Corporate Communications for Hacienda HealthCare, in an email obtained by KJZZ, is quoted as saying: " . . .there must be more to the story than I have previously known. That alone makes me very uncomfortable continuing to work here.”
Is that a plausible denial? Hard to deny that when other board members, staff and a former County Attorney jump-off a sinking ship!
Here's Nancy Salmon's Press Release about
https://www.azfamily.com/.../article_9342c7c4-0fb2-11e9-8138-4fcd53869faf.html
"Hacienda Healthcare has been in business in the valley for over 50 years, and has an outstanding reputation providing high quality specialized care for our patients. As a Healthcare provider, we cannot comment on any patient due to Federal and State privacy laws. Additionally, we cannot comment on any ongoing investigations. We can say that our patients and clients health and safety is our #1 priority and that we always cooperate, when asked by any agency, in an open and transparent way."
You can see on medicare.gov that Hacienda has a one star rating, which is "much below average ."
> EDITOR'S NOTE: The woman's family later clarified her condition, saying that she is not in a vegetative state.
"She has significant intellectual disabilities as a result of seizures very early in her childhood," their lawyer said in a statement released on Jan. 22 on their behalf.

Headline story yesterday from KJZZ News:
Several Hacienda HealthCare Board Members, Staff And County Attorney Resign
Updated: Friday, March 1, 2019 - 3:47pm
It certainly sounds like there's going to be much more to follow on this story . . .
Here's the latest yesterday afternoon. It's a podcast if you want to listen
Former County Attorney Rick Romley submitted his letter of resignation, along with several Hacienda board members and staff, including the director of nursing. Joining me to talk more about this is KJZZ's Kathy Ritchie, who's been following the story. Hey Kathy.
"Yeah absolutely. Well, first we learned that former County Attorney Rick Romley tendered his resignation to Hacienda's CEO Patrick White on February 26. He also sent a check for $10,000, reimbursement for part of the fee for any unfinished work. Romley was investigating what happened at Hacienda. And so this is certainly surprising.
BRODIE: Well did he say anything in his letter about why he decided to step down?
RITCHIE: He did say it was a pleasure working with some of White's management team, but he said he could not continue because of several issues involving certain members of Hacienda's board, many of whom also resigned.
BRODIE: Alright, so do we know who resigned?

WHO IS NANCY SALMON?
Press release from Arizona Beehive
Nancy Salmon Serves as new VP of Corporate Communications for Hacienda HealthCare

Nancy says, initially, “My interest in Hacienda HealthCare had a lot to do with what I knew about the organization because of Matt’s advocacy for them over the years and the fact that it was a great growth opportunity.”
“Hacienda HealthCare can tell story after story of children who, because of God’s will, the miracles of modern medicine, Hacienda’s care and their own inner strength, have been taken off their ventilators or are otherwise thriving,” Nancy says.
Yet, she adds, “I have realized that there are very few individuals in our community that know of the fabulous resources of this nonprofit organization.
My goal is to make Hacienda HealthCare a household name.”

WHO IS MATT SALMON? (He's got a job at ASU too: High-salaried $250K/year Lobbyist)
Your MesaZona blogger wrote about Matt Salmon back in  2016:
12 June 2016
Catch-Of-The-Day Matt Salmon:
DC Politico Insider Dives Into Lobby Spigot for ASU
Anyway you look at it, dear readers, here's another excellent example of "The Revolving Door" where those elected to serve time in Congress use their connections for gain and profit after that DC stint  or perhaps for evermore.
Definition: In politics, the "revolving door" is a movement of personnel between roles as legislators and regulators and the industries affected by the legislation and regulation. In some cases, the roles are performed in sequence but in certain circumstances may be performed at the same time.
Another word for the role of go-between might be lobbyist.
The industry = BIG Education e.g. ASU
Salmon, a Republican, has been the representative for Arizona's 5th congressional district since Jan 3, 2013 (next election in 2016)
He was previously the representative for Arizona's 1st congressional district (1995-2000).

Here's how the official announcement went out to the public and the media. Typical double-talk and news-speak with the headline telling you like it is - where ASU goes for money and pays someone to get it. Michael Crow's hand is out . . .
Why Matt Salmon? He could be very useful to deliver the money-pot into Michael Crow's hand for both the leap-frogging in-state expansion and international expansion into England, Australia and China for online and distance learning. Makes sense [+ cents], huh?
Matt Salmon currently sits on the following committees: [links provided]
House Committee on Foreign Affairs
Chairman, Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific
Member, Subcommittee on The Western Hemisphere
House Committee on Education and the Workforce
Member, Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions
Member, Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Training

U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon to join ASU as vice president for government affairs
ASU alum will oversee the university’s local, state and federal relations teams
"Rep. Matt Salmon, who has represented the 5th District of Arizona for five terms in Washington, will join Arizona State University as vice president for government affairs at the end of the 114th Congress. . ."

As it turns out [or keeps on goin' round-and-round] that ASU-Salmon revolving door - and shared connections with many politicians here in Mesa graduating from BYU - has been spinning for years.
According to this same announcement
"Salmon graduated from ASU in 1981 and holds a Master’s of Public Administration from Brigham Young University. After a career in telecommunications, he was elected to the Arizona State Senate, where he rose to assistant majority leader and chairman of the Rules Committee before his election to Congress in 1994.
Salmon served three terms before honoring a self-imposed term limit and leaving Congress in 2000 [Blogger's Note: to have fellow BYU and LDS member Jeff Flake succeed to that seat] at which time he worked as a consultant to ASU on matters related to education policy. He returned to Congress in 2012 and was re-elected in 2014. . . "

“I have been privileged to have a unique vantage point from which to watch the evolution of Arizona State under the leadership of President Crow,” Salmon said. “Now I look forward to increasing the investment of resources in ASU and the Arizona higher-education system, and enhancing ASU’s partnerships with Arizona cities and countries, the federal government, tribal communities and its international partners.”

Arizona Universities Count On Federal Connections Amid Flagging State Support

"Arizona’s 5th Congressional District Rep. Matt Salmon is already set for his next career when his current term expires in January. He’s going to become ASU’s vice president for government affairs.
In a statement, school President Michael Crow said, “our relationships with lawmakers and education policy-makers will be greatly strengthened with Matt on our team.”
Scott Jaschik, editor of Inside Higher Ed, said universities rely on the federal government for everything from research support to policy that shapes student aid."

Sub-headed with this lame excuse and using "family"as that reason always makes your MesaZona blogger ever the more curious

"Representing the wonderful people of Arizona has truly been one of the most rewarding blessings of my life. . . "
O yeah sure ...
he and his wife own a public relations firm
Couldn't they come up with anything more original for negotiations to get a job cashing- in on his experience and time-served in DC?

Age of Surveillance Capitalism: “We Thought We Were Searching Google, Bu...

https://democracynow.org - Corporations have created a new kind of marketplace out of our private human experiences. That is the conclusion of an explosive new book that argues big tech platforms like Facebook and Google are elephant poachers, and our personal data is ivory tusks. Author Shoshana Zuboff writes in “The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power”: “At its core, surveillance capitalism is parasitic and self-referential. It revives Karl Marx’s old image of capitalism as a vampire that feeds on labor, but with an unexpected turn. Instead of labor, surveillance capitalism feeds on every aspect of every human’s experience.”
