Published Ahead-of-Time (with Urgency) by The Atlantic > A Story by Barton Gellman

Red Lights are blinking: DANGER AHEAD

Let us not hedge about one thing. Donald Trump may win or lose, but he will never concede.

Editor’s Note: This story appears in the November issue of The Atlantic; we’ve published it early on our website because of its urgency. Subscribers to the print magazine can expect to receive the issue in mid-October.

"There is a cohort of close observers of our presidential elections, scholars and lawyers and political strategists, who find themselves in the uneasy position of intelligence analysts in the months before 9/11. As November 3 approaches, their screens are blinking red, alight with warnings that the political system does not know how to absorb. They see the obvious signs that we all see, but they also know subtle things that most of us do not. Something dangerous has hove into view, and the nation is lurching into its path.

The Election That Could Break America

If the vote is close, Donald Trump could easily throw the election into chaos and subvert the result. Who will stop him?

Planning & Development: The Normal Process From Scratch-to-Finish + Points-in-Between

Internal and external. The crossing-point when government decides to do or not to do something.

The featured example today is for the Study Session and Public Hearing to be conducted by the City's Planning & Zoning Board - a "refresher" presentation to remind the members about the Open Meeting Laws and Conflict of Interest presented by Assistant City Attorney Charlotte McDermott

By the time "something" reaches the Mesa
City Council there's a step-by-step process in place in a framework of prescripted time. That's the way it's supposed to work fast-tracked or not . . .
In the course of human events involving city staff employees and public citizen volunteers appointed to serve on various boards and committees - those actions are all internal. Likewise, they are a matter of public record and a subject for review, reaction and response. Those actions - if any - are external.
Here's an example of what the Planning & Zoning Board has on the agenda today: a study session and a Public Hearing:

Yep _ in the Present
Now >

In this clip from the Waking Up With Julianna Forlano show, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and best-selling author, Chris Hedges, discusses how "journalism itself has been on freefall ever since the internet"... going into his history in the business since the 80's, pondering what a sustainable model might be going forward, and more. Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle,

Chris is a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, a New York Times best-selling author, a professor in the college degree program offered to New Jersey state prisoners by Rutgers University, and an ordained Presbyterian minister.
He has written 12 books, including the New York Times best-seller “Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt” which he co-authored with the cartoonist Joe Sacco.
