Everything Hangs In-The-Balance By/Before 2030: “The climate crisis is here, and the cost of inaction is already staggering.”

Like they say "Plan accordingly" > Nearly $500 billion worth of grants, incentives, and programs will be voted on by the members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. After that, the legislation will be merged with the other portions of the reconciliation bill as soon as Wednesday. Senate Democrats have been meeting to draft their version of the bill, and Congressional Democrats hope to send a finalized piece of legislation to Biden by the end of the year.
So far, Republicans are united in their opposition, . .

House bill would eliminate natural gas, impose sweeping changes on economy

From clean energy to EV chargers, wide-ranging bill would have lasting effects.

President Joe Biden’s climate ambitions will face a critical test on Monday as a major portion of the $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill comes up for a vote. If it passes, the sprawling legislation will push the American economy to rein in its carbon emissions by spurring advancements in clean energy, electric vehicles, grid modernization, and more. . ."

More details:

Clean power, part deux

The most significant piece in the bill is the Clean Electricity Performance Plan, a suite of carrots and sticks intended to steadily increase the amount of clean power produced by utilities and producers. The House is considering a target of 80 percent clean power by 2030, a significant increase from today’s 20 percent but one that falls short of Biden’s stated goal of net zero by the end of the decade.

To hit the target, the bill would provide $150 billion in tax incentives for clean energy, which the bill defines as anything producing less than 0.1 metric tons of CO2 equivalent, a level that effectively eliminates natural gas from consideration. To qualify for the incentives, power producers have to increase the supply of clean energy by 4 percent annually. If they fail to do so, they’ll be charged $40 for every MWh they fall short.

The grid gets a jolt, too, with $9 billion allocated for updates that include improved ties between the Eastern and Western Interconnections—the two major North American grids—and with ERCOT, Texas’ grid, which suffered significant power outages in February. The hope is that a modernized grid will accommodate growing contributions from renewables and be more reliable in the face of extreme weather events that are becoming more common due to climate change. > On the supply side, oil and gas companies would have to overhaul their operations to reduce methane leaks throughout their operations. Currently, around 1.5 percent to 4 percent of methane seeps out of pipelines, gas fields, and refineries, depending on the estimate. The proposed law would require producers to plug a lot of leaks to bring total methane emissions down to 0.2 percent of sales. If the producers don’t succeed, they would be assessed a fee that would help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from other oil and gas operations and clean up lingering pollution in communities near refineries and other facilities.

Retrofits for all

> The House bill would help reduce oil and gas demand through several other programs, too, most notably with $13.5 billion for EV charging infrastructure.

> While representing less than Biden’s $15 billion request, the money would target charge points at weak spots throughout the country, including along roads and highways, in apartment buildings and condos, at workplaces, and in underserved areas.

> If this part passes as is, it would be a significant step forward for EV infrastructure—many apartment and condo dwellers have held back on buying EVs because of questions about charging, and government support in underserved areas would help fill gaps in many commercial charging networks.

> Buildings get a boost in the bill, too, with provisions to entice people to buy more energy-efficient appliances and rebates for folks who want to improve their home’s energy efficiency. Federal buildings would also qualify. There aren’t many details yet, so how extensive or effective these portions will be remains to be seen.

The Week in Review

Happy Friday!

We may have hit a new low in the Biden administration this week. I’ll skip the thematic explanation and cut to the chase. We’re still working to bring stranded Americans home from Afghanistan, inflation is still rampant, the border worsens by the month, and now President Biden has decided to require vaccinations for employers with 100 or more employees. President Biden is failing the American people and shredding the Constitution. I will not stand idly by. The fight is on. Read below to learn about the important happenings of the week:

End the Unconstitutional Proxy Voting

I have rejected Pelosi's extra-constitutional extension of absentee voting in Congress and have shown up to vote in person because I believe that is the constitutional requirement. It's my job. The Supreme Court must protect the integrity of voting in the U.S. House of Representatives by overturning Pelosi’s unconstitutional rule change that allowed proxy voting. The Constitution requires Congress to assemble in person. As members of Congress, it is our duty to uphold the proper constitutional order and work for the American people from our nation’s capital. Release the Transcript

On Tuesday, I sent a letter to President Biden requesting the full transcript of his telephone conversation with Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani. On the phone call, Biden urged Ghani to lie to Americans and the world. He wanted Ghani to "change perception" of the Taliban’s rapid takeover of the country. Over the last month, the American people watched a shockingly disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan that empowered the Taliban and cost 13 U.S. service members their lives. The American people are tired of being lied to by this administration and deserve to know if President Biden pressured a foreign official to spread misinformation. I call on him to release the full transcript of his call with President Ghani and let the public be the judge. Check out my full letter below:

Interview on Fox News

I joined Martha MacCallum on The Faulkner Focus to discuss Secretary Blinken’s lack of planning in the withdrawal of Americans stranded in Afghanistan. The Secretary has a lot of explaining to do, and it starts with answering the million dollar question: where was the plan? We deserve to know why we still have American citizens stranded in Afghanistan and whether or not Secretary Blinken was listening to the intelligence community. Where are the Kids?

Today, I sent a letter to Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra regarding recent media reports indicating that HHS lost contact with thousands of migrant children released from its custody. We want to know, where are these children? This is yet another example of the disastrous consequences of the Biden administration’s open-border policies. Instead of retaining Trump administration policies that discouraged illegal immigration and disincentivized parents from sending their children to the United States alone, President Biden has chosen to implement policies that encourage illegal immigration. The Biden administration must be held accountable for their disastrous actions and Secretary Becerra must give full account for these disturbing reports. Click on the letter below to read it:

Holding the Far Left Accountable

On Wednesday, I sent a letter to 14 companies requesting they preserve the communication and phone records of certain Democrat representatives for future investigative use. This request was in response to the January 6 Select Committee's attempt to obtain private phone records as part of its investigation into the events of January 6th. Pelosi and the Far-Left Democrats have acted above the law by creating a smear campaign to take down Trump supporters. Conservatives in Congress have to fight the malevolence of the Left as Democrats continue to attack on a partisan basis. That is why we called on these companies to preserve the phone and communications records of Democrat representatives. It’s time the Far Left lives under the same rules and standards they impose.

Image
The Jan. 6 “Smear Campaign” Committee

The Jan. 6 Select Committee formed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is on a political witch-hunt. Who is surprised? This is the same crew that spent years perpetuating a false narrative that then-candidate Donald Trump colluded with the Russians to steal the 2016 presidential election. That effort collapsed because that particular witch-hunt committee concluded the allegations were untrue. But here we are again, fighting off Pelosi’s bogus claims and distorted narrative by her smear campaign of a committee against those who supported Trump. Click below to read my full opinion piece on the Jan 6 Select Committees efforts to push their radical agenda.

Interview on OANN

I joined Dan Ball on OANN’s Real America to discuss the latest findings on the funding for gain-of-function research. The more we learn about COVID, the more apparent it becomes that the pro-Biden public health bureaucracy misled Americans about ‘gain of function’ research in the Wuhan lab. Even though the evidence is incriminating, the media and Far Left Democrats continue giving Dr. Fauci, NIAID, and the CDC a pass. Check out my full interview below.

9/11 Tribute

Tomorrow will be a solemn day for all Americans, young and old. 20 years ago, the worst terror attack on U.S. soil was carried out. The events that occurred on September 11, 2001, forever changed American history. We mourn the loss of life on that day and remember that freedom comes at a price. Let this anniversary serve as a reminder that we must guard our blessings closely and never forget that what makes our country great makes us a target to evil. But nevertheless, 9/11 was a day that showed the world what America is made of, and why these attacks would never destroy the foundation of this republic. May God continue to bless this country.

Stay Tuned…

Next week, I will be introducing legislation to block Biden’s newest COVID-19 edicts. We must fight against these attempts to force vaccine mandates on the American people, and Biden needs to be reminded that he is President of the United States, not Dictator-in-Chief.

Here is the back story: The Pentagon’s official version said that the August 29 drone strike targeted a white Toyota belonging to Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), a terrorist group that took credit for the killing of 13 US troops and 170-plus Afghan civilians at the Kabul airport several days prior. Multiple officials claimed that “secondary explosions” proved the car was rigged with explosives.

A New York Times visual investigation published Friday, however, found no traces of secondary explosions, only the fragments of a Hellfire missile that killed Zemari Ahmadi and seven children.

US drone strike in Kabul killed AID WORKER, not ISIS terrorist, NYT investigation shows

A new investigation claims that a US drone strike in Kabul did not take out a dangerous terrorist driving a car bomb, but an innocent Afghan aid worker employed by an American NGO, and the children who came to greet him.

The Pentagon’s official version said that the August 29 drone strike targeted a white Toyota belonging to Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K), a terrorist group that took credit for the killing of 13 US troops and 170-plus Afghan civilians at the Kabul airport several days prior. Multiple officials claimed that “secondary explosions” proved the car was rigged with explosives.

A New York Times visual investigation published Friday, however, found no traces of secondary explosions, only the fragments of a Hellfire missile that killed Zemari Ahmadi and seven children.

The outlet conducted interviews with survivors on the ground, checked security camera footage and satellite imagery, and put everything together in a 10-minute video. Every step of the way, it shows that the official version of events simply doesn’t hold water.

Ahmadi had worked for 14 years at Nutrition & Education International, an American NGO that set up soy factories and distributed food to malnourished Afghans. He was having a normal day on August 29, picking up colleagues on the way to breakfast and the NGO office in the Karte Seh neighborhood of Kabul.

What the US military interpreted as a series of suspicious movements was a typical day in Ahmadi’s life, according to five men who were in the car with him, interviewed by a Times reporter. The “suspicious packages” he was loading into the car were containers Ahmadi filled with water at the office, because his neighborhood was dealing with a water shortage.

When Ahmadi drove home, the car was surrounded by neighborhood children. Yet the drone strike team claimed they had only seen one adult male present. An MQ-9 Reaper drone then fired one 20-pound Hellfire missile at the car.

=======================================================================

The US military claimed large secondary explosions proved the car was in fact a bomb intended to kill Americans at the airport. One of the people who said so is Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley.
At this point, we think that the procedures were correctly followed, and it was a righteous strike,” Milley told reporters on September 1, after the US airlift from Kabul ended.

The Times, however, says its reporter showed photos and videos of the scene to three experts who all agreed the damage was consistent with a single Hellfire strike.

Just days before his death, Ahmadi had applied for a special visa to emigrate to the US with his family. Instead, they were killed in a drone strike the Pentagon triumphantly announced as the killing of an “ISIS-K facilitator. Local media and the Taliban immediately said that the strike had killed civilians. The final death toll was three adults and seven children.

A week after the attack, RT spoke to Ahmadi’s younger brother Emal, who survived the strike because he was outside in the street. He described the horrifying moments after the Hellfire missile hit their courtyard, killing some of his family members instantly while dooming others to die of terrible injuries.

Calling the Americans “utter liars” for suggesting his brother was somehow linked to ISIS-K, Ahmadi is demanding an investigation into the apparently botched strike. He says neither the Westerners nor local authorities have shown any interest in examining the site of the strike and finding out the facts.

Ahmadi’s relative, Jamshid Yousoufi, whose 2-year-old daughter Sumaya was visiting the family and died in the attack, did not hide his emotions when speaking to RT.

“Without any proof, without any investigation, they attacked us and killed our children, and we will never forgive them,” Yousoufi said.

HuffPost Reveal: Rally Forge Revisited / Online Social Media Meme Inflluencers / Stealth Shilling

If your favorite memer had encouraged you to donate to Trump’s campaign but didn’t make it clear that they were being compensated to do so, you might have made a donation under the false impression that someone you trust was giving an independent endorsement rather than serving as a paid campaign mouthpiece

Trump Insiders Are Quietly Paying Teen Memers For Posts

Networks and Netwars: The Future of Terror, Crime, and Militancy

Documents show that meme accounts rife with disinformation have also become shadowy advertising tools for some notable Republicans.

"In the fever swamps of Instagram, a network of right-wing meme accounts run by teenage boys and young men has erupted into an advertising powerhouse reaching millions. These memers — who regularly post far-right conspiracy theories, anti-vaccine propaganda and other incendiary clickbait — first caught the attention of obscure brands selling cheap MAGA merch, who started paying them to display ads to their rapidly growing conservative audiences. The money wasn’t great, as a few memers told HuffPost last summer, but it still felt like a big deal to watch their Instagram pages blossom into mini businesses.

Little did they know, members of Donald Trump’s inner circle would soon come knocking.

Since the 2020 election, these meme moguls have quietly collected payments to run ads for the Trump campaign’s “Election Defense Fund”; former senior Trump aide Jason Miller’s new social media network, GETTR; Trump confidant Mike Lindell’s bedding company, MyPillow; and, as recently as a few weeks ago, the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

In a few cases, the memers have included high-schoolers as young as 14. Some of these discreet ad deals were brokered directly between teens and former members of the Trump White House, communications obtained by HuffPost reveal. . .

Most of the ads come in the form of memes with captions urging people to click customized links inserted into the memers’ Instagram bios, which lead to the promoted parties’ websites. The memers typically earn a small “conversion” fee for each person who uses their link, doled out by third-party marketing agencies working with big-name clients. Given the massive reach of several of these pages, often boosted by Instagram’s powerful recommendation algorithms, this can quickly add up. For the recent GETTR ad campaign, memers earned $0.85 per conversion with a cap of 25,000 conversions — or $21,250.

A 16-year-old memer directs his followers to click the link in his Instagram bio, which leads to an email-harvesting “petition” and a donation portal for the NRSC.

Not many kids can name-drop major political figures (or a world-infamous pillow tycoon) on their résumés before they’re old enough to vote. For some, their Instagram shitpost accounts — once casual side hustles they would use to shill crummy MAGA socks and the like for a few bucks here and there — are now serious income streams. . .

> The services they provide are highly valuable: They’ve fostered relationships with huge niche communities and can launch hushed influence campaigns that are free from the kind of oversight and transparency mandates enforced through regulated advertising channels. . .

Almost none of the dozens of meme ads that HuffPost has observed have been labeled as paid endorsements — a form of deceptive advertising known as “stealth shilling.” In certain cases, memers’ failure to disclose their compensation likely constitutes a violation of federal law for which they, the promoted parties and any intermediaries could be held liable.

But the evidence doesn’t exist for long: Unlike an official ad placed through Instagram’s business platform, which would be stored in an online database and subject to public scrutiny, the memers tend to delete sponsored posts from their pages after just 24 to 72 hours. This is especially problematic when it comes to ads of a political nature, as it allows advertisers to target voters with virtually untraceable messaging.

Memers who've been tapped to run paid ads for Trump-affiliated entities also often post far-right disinformation and bigoted
Memers who’ve been tapped to run paid ads for Trump-affiliated entities also often post far-right disinformation and bigoted clickbait.

“A lot of this stuff is very down-low,” said a memer with hundreds of thousands of followers. Like others who spoke to HuffPost, he is a minor and requested anonymity. Some declined to speak on the record for fear of endangering their business relationships. . .Sondra Clark and Ory Rinat launched Urban Legend, an influencer marketing platform that has collaborated with young memers, in 2020.

Behind the scenes, young memers have done business directly with the former chief digital officer of Trump’s White House, Ory Rinat, according to emails and Instagram messages reviewed by HuffPost. Rinat left politics in June 2020 to launch Urban Legend, an influencer marketing platform, with the former marketing director of Trump’s executive office, Sondra Clark. Federal Election Commission filings show that over the next six months, Urban Legend’s partner firm, Legendary Campaigns, raked in close to $1.8 million from Trump’s reelection campaign for “online advertising,” as Axios first reported.

During this time, memers simultaneously unleashed a torrent of pre-election memes instructing their followers to visit the Trump campaign’s website and complete their voter registration — with at least one suggesting they do so to “make sure Democrats didn’t mess with it” — followed by dozens of post-election memes directing people to a campaign donation portal in support of Trump’s legal battle to overturn his loss. Urban Legend declined to comment on specific ad campaigns; it also declined to confirm that it had worked with the Trump campaign and other entities HuffPost inquired about.

“We can’t allow the Left-wing MOB to steal the Presidency,” one memer wrote in an ad promoting Trump’s “Election Defense Fund.” “Hit the LINK IN MY BIO and let’s fight these Commies in the Supreme Court.” (Those who donated may be surprised to learn that most of their money actually went into Trump’s “Save America” PAC, a slush fund he could dip into as he pleases for personal expenses, like golfing.). . .

MADE IN ARIZONA: Jake Hoffman in Queen Creek and Turning Point's election troll farm

The Washington Post in September exposed Hoffman’s Rally Forge, a digital marketing firm that paid teenagers, some of them minors, to set up fake personas and blanket social media with thousands of nearly identical posts aimed at undermining confidence in the validity of election and downplaying the impact of COVID-19.

OPINION: House Speaker Rusty Bowers appoints a newly elected legislator who specializes in internet disinformation campaigns to the No. 2 post on the panel that oversees elections. Genius plan

Arizona's minister of disinformation is appointed to help oversee election law? Seriously?

Jake Hoffman (Photo: Town of Queen Creek)

The newly elected legislator who ran what amounts to an internet troll farm — paying teens to post conservative talking points and baseless conspiracy theories aimed at getting President Donald Trump re-elected — has been appointed to the state House committee that oversees elections.

No, really.

House Speaker Rusty Bowers this week not only appointed incoming Rep. Jake Hoffman to the House Government and Elections Committee, he made this minister of disinformation the panel’s vice chairman.

Their posts, often replies to news stories, created the appearance of a social media groundswell of youth support for conservative causes but actually were slightly edited comments lifted from a shared document, according to the Post

Inside the Weird, and Booming, Industry of Online Influence

Recently, the business of getting paid to promote a company via your social media has spread pandemic-like.

In the past 10 years, “sponcon,” the business of getting paid to promote a company via your social media, has spread pandemic-like. Sponsored content may be obnoxious (and even morally questionable at times), but it's plenty legal—as long as influencers cop to the fact that they're being paid. The Federal Trade Commission says that if influencers have received money, gifts, or anything else that could affect how users view their mention of a brand or product, they should disclose it prominently in the post. Few do. Unsurprisingly, the agency isn't actively monitoring individual influencers. And the short life of stories on Instagram and Snapchat means it's even easier for covert #ads to simply disappear. Welcome to the weird—and booming—industry of influence.

The amount of sponcon in your feed has exploded.

When it comes to social media shilling, Instagram is by far the fan favorite. People branded as “influencers” posted more than 3.7 million #ads to the platform in 2018. That's 43 percent more than the year before. And those numbers only include the properly disclosed ads.

And companies are spending more ad dollars on influencers. . .
