Task Force Recommends Anxiety Screening for All Adults Under 65

O Yeah...Are they serious? The task force stopped short of recommending screening for seniors aged 65 and up, but that’s because symptoms of anxiety and symptoms of aging can often overlap, so it was less clear whether treatment for anxiety was needed at those ages.

The task force is an independent panel of experts appointed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The public can comment on the proposed recommendation through Oct. 17 before final approval.

A similar recommendation was issued for those aged 8 to 18 in April by the same group, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.

Another Day, Another Legal Disaster for Donald Trump

Trump’s hand-picked referee in the Mar-a-Lago scandal scolded his lawyers for refusing to say whether the former president declassified the documents found in his storage room.

Former President Donald Trump’s big plan to stall the investigation into the Mar-a-Lago classified documents scandal isn’t going the way he might have hoped.

On , a federal judge pushed back against Trump’s lawyers for hinting that the documents might be declassified while refusing to say whether they definitely had been. In other words, Trump’s own lawyers balked at backing up claims their boss made loudly outside the courtroom.

“My view is, you can’t have your cake and eat it too,” Judge Raymond Dearie said

Judge Dearie didn’t rule on the issue Tuesday, but he pressed Trump lawyer Jim Trusty about why he shouldn’t simply rule in favor of the side that at least showed him some evidence.

“If the government gives me prima facia evidence that they are classified documents, and you don’t advance any claim of declassification, I’m left with a prima facia case of classified documents, and as far as I’m concerned, that’s the end of it,” Judge Dearie said

Trump’s lawyers argued they can’t explain whether Trump really declassified any of the documents because that would reveal their future defense strategy if Trump ever gets charged with a crime.

Wang Yi Meets with Former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger of the United States

4 - 5 minutes

On September 19, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger of the United States in New York.

Wang Yi congratulated Dr. Kissinger on his upcoming 100th birthday. He said, Dr. Kissinger is an old friend and good friend of the Chinese people, who has made historic contributions to the establishment and development of China-U.S. relations. The Chinese side appreciates that Dr. Kissinger has always been friendly to China and with confidence in China-U.S. relations. Hope Dr. Kissinger will continue his unique and important role in helping bilateral relations for an early return on the right track.

Wang Yi expressed, this year marks the 50th anniversary of President Richard Nixon's visit to China and the issuance of the Shanghai Communiqué. China and the U.S. should take a serious review of the valuable experience in the 50 years of exchanges. China's policy toward the U.S. remains consistent and stable. The three principles put forward by President Xi Jinping in developing China-U.S. relations, i.e. mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, are a takeaway from the development of China-U.S. relations over the past 50 years, and also basic principles that should be jointly followed in the next stage. President Joe Biden has made the "five noes" commitment (i.e. not seek a "new Cold War"; not seek to change China's system; the revitalization of its alliances is not against China; not support "Taiwan independence"; not look for conflict with China), but what the U.S. has done has run in the opposite direction. The U.S., out of a wrong perception of China, insists on viewing China as its most prominent rival and a long-term challenger. Some people even described successful stories of China-U.S. exchanges as failed ones. By doing so, they respect neither history nor themselves. Dr. Kissinger once warned that China-U.S. relations have been in the "foothills of a Cold War". An outbreak of a new Cold War will be a disaster for China and the U.S., as well as other parts of the world. The U.S. should adopt a rational and pragmatic policy towards China, return to the right track of the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, and safeguard the political foundation of China-U.S. relations.

Wang Yi stressed, the pressing task now is to properly manage the Taiwan question. Otherwise it could be subversive to China-U.S. relations. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's sneaky visit to the Taiwan region, the U.S. Senate's review of The Taiwan Policy Act of 2022, and remarks related to "defending Taiwan", all of these have seriously challenged the three China-U.S. joint communiqués, and gravely undermined the political foundation of China-U.S. relations. Achieving peaceful reunification is our best wish, and we will make utmost efforts to this end. But it's noteworthy that the more rampant "Taiwan independence" activities are, the less likely it is to resolve the Taiwan question peacefully. A Chinese saying goes to the effect that "To defend even an inch of land, a country will not hesitate to sacrifice one thousand soldiers." The saying reflects the will and resolve of the Chinese people. If the Anti-Secession Law is violated, China will surely, in accordance with the law, take firm actions to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity. Wang Yi stressed, to maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, the U.S. should earnestly return to the original meaning of the one-China principle, and unequivocally oppose and curb "Taiwan independence" activities.

Dr. Kissinger recalled the historical context of the Shanghai Communiqué reached with Chinese leaders. He expressed that the extreme importance of the Taiwan question to China should be fully recognized, and the U.S. and China need dialogue rather than confrontation and should build a bilateral relationship of peaceful coexistence.

China issues Cold War warning to US

3 - 4  minutes

Washington is “wrong” in its perception of China and should not view it as a rival, Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said

A Cold War between China and the US would be a “disaster” for both countries and for the whole world, Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned on Monday, after meeting with former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

During their meeting in New York, Wang Yi described Kissinger, who played a vital role in normalizing relations between Washington and Beijing in the 1970s, as a “good friend of the Chinese people.”

However, Beijing’s most senior diplomat cautioned that “an outbreak of a new Cold War will be a disaster for China and the US, as well as other parts of the world,” urging Washington to adopt a rational and pragmatic policy towards China.

According to the minister, Washington could do that by honoring its previous recognition of China’s position that Taiwan is part of its territory under the ‘One China’ policy.

Wang Yi said the recent visit by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the island was detrimental for Sino-US relations, as was the US Congress’ Taiwan Policy Act 2022. The latter document, which was backed by the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, aims to provide Taipei with billions of dollars in security assistance.

Wang went on to say that the US has “a wrong perception of China”, viewing it as “its most prominent rival and a long-term challenger”.

Some people even described successful stories of China-US exchanges as failed ones. By doing so, they respect neither history nor themselves,” the statement read.

Peaceful reunification with Taiwan is China’s “best wish,” Wang said, adding that Beijing would do its best to achieve this end. He said, however, that the more “rampant” Taiwan’s independence-affirming activities become, “the less likely” the issue can be resolved peacefully.

His comments come after US President Joe Biden said on Sunday that American troops would defend Taiwan if it were attacked by China. This statement drew ire from Beijing, which said that it “deplores and firmly opposes” such a stance.

Taiwan has governed itself since nationalist forces led by Chiang Kai-shek fled to the island in 1949, after they lost the civil war to the Communists. The US government has, since the 1970s, officially recognized but not endorsed China’s sovereignty over Taiwan.

China reacts to mobilization in Russia

3 minutes

Beijing has reiterated its call for resolution of the Ukraine crisis through diplomacy

Beijing has responded to the announcement of partial military mobilization in Russia by calling for a peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in Ukraine.

China’s position that the parties involved in the security crisis should exercise restraint and seek a mutually acceptable solution has been consistent and clear, Wang Wenbin, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told journalists during a daily briefing on Wednesday, as quoted by news agencies.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the mobilization of some military reserve members on Wednesday. In a video address to the nation, he said the measure was necessary due to the situation in Ukraine, where Russian troops are facing “the entire Western military machine.”

Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said his department was seeking to enroll into active service some 300,000 reservists, prioritizing those with combat experience and certain professions required to sustain the Ukraine campaign.

The troops will receive additional training before being fielded, the minister said. He promised that the reservists would be sent to man defensive positions along the 1,000km-long front line.

$35M fine for Morgan Stanley after unencrypted, unwiped hard drives are auctioned

"Morgan Stanley on Tuesday agreed to pay the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) a $35 million penalty for data security lapses that included unencrypted hard drives from decommissioned data centers being resold on auction sites without first being wiped.

The SEC action said that the improper disposal of thousands of hard drives starting in 2016 was part of an “extensive failure” over a five-year period to safeguard customers’ data as required by federal regulations. The agency said that the failures also included the improper disposal of hard drives and backup tapes when decommissioning servers in local branches. In all, the SEC said data for 15 million customers was exposed.

"Astonishing failures"

“MSSB’s failures in this case are astonishing,” said Gurbir S. Grewal, director of the SEC’s enforcement division, using the initials for Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, the full name of the firm. “Customers entrust their personal information to financial professionals with the understanding and expectation that it will be protected, and MSSB fell woefully short in doing so.”

Much of the failure stemmed from the 2016 hire of a moving company with no experience or expertise in data destruction services to decommission thousands of hard drives and servers containing the data of millions of customers. The moving company received 53 RAID arrays that collectively contained roughly 1,000 hard drives, and it also removed about 8,000 backup tapes from one of the Morgan Stanley data centers.

The unnamed moving company initially contracted with an IT specialist to wipe or destroy any sensitive data stored on the drives. Eventually, the moving company stopped working with that specialist and began selling the storage devices to a company that in turn sold them at auction. The new company was never vetted by Morgan Stanley or approved as a contractor or subcontractor in the decommissioning project.

In 2017, more than a year after the data center's decommissioning, Morgan Stanley officials received an email from an IT consultant in Oklahoma, informing them that hard drives he purchased from an online auction site contained Morgan Stanley data.

In a complaint, SEC officials wrote, “In that email, Consultant informed MSSB that ‘[y]ou are a major financial institution and should be following some very stringent guidelines on how to deal with retiring hardware. Or at the very least getting some kind of verification of data destruction from the vendors you sell equipment to.’ MSSB eventually repurchased the hard drives in Consultant’s possession.”

The SEC action also said that many of the storage devices didn’t have encryption turned on, though the option existed. Even after the investment firm began using encryption options in 2018, only new data written to the disks was protected. In some cases, data still wasn’t properly encrypted because of a flaw in an unidentified vendor’s product.

Without admitting or denying the SEC claims, Morgan Stanley agreed to Tuesday’s finding that it violated the Safeguards and Disposal Rules under Regulation S-P and agreed to pay the $35 million penalty.

In a statement, Morgan Stanley officials wrote, “We are pleased to be resolving this matter. We have previously notified applicable clients regarding these matters, which occurred several years ago, and have not detected any unauthorized access to, or misuse of, personal client information.”

The 26-year-old son of Lori Vallow Daybell — the jailed Idaho mom accused of murdering her two other children — has been accused of committing sexual assault in Arizona, PEOPLE confirms.

Online jail records show Colby Ryan was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on Sunday.

Ryan is charged with two counts of domestic violent sexual assault. He has not entered pleas to the charges.

Ryan is Vallow's oldest son and her only living child.

In May 2021, Vallow and her husband, Chad Daybell, were indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and first-degree murder after police recovered the bodies of her missing kids, Joshua (J.J.) Vallow and Tylee Ryan.

In April, not guilty pleas were entered on the 49-year-old mother's behalf. Daybell has also pleaded not guilty.

Vallow and Daybell, 54, will be tried jointly early next year, officials have stated.

KSAZ-TV in Phoenix obtained copies of the charging documents against Ryan.

The charges stem from an Aug. 31 incident at the alleged victim's home.

Ryan and the woman were watching television at her home. Eventually, according to police, the two started engaging in consensual sexual contact.

However, the alleged victim told police she decided to stop the intimate contact, and told Ryan to back off. The charging documents allege he did not do so, KSAZ-TV reports.

The alleged victim reported the incident on Sept. 2. She allegedly told Ryan he had sexually assaulted her, according to the charging documents.

"The Victim said the Defendant said he was sorry and started to cry," read the court documents, according to KSAZ-TV.

The next morning, police say, the alleged victim recorded a conversation she had with Ryan, during which he allegedly "agreed" that what happened the previous evening constituted sexual assault.

Niece of so-called "Doomsday Mom" Lori Vallow faces computer tampering charge in Mesa

MESA, Ariz.
- Melani Pawlowski -- the niece of Lori Vallow, the so-called "Doomsday Mom" accused of killing her two children, is facing her own criminal charge in Mesa Municipal Court.

Pawlowski, 33, is accused of computer tampering by Mesa Police. The victim in the case is her ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux. Boudreaux was shot at in Gilbert in October 2019, and according to investigators, Boudreaux believed Pawlowski provided the shooter with his new address.

The Gilbert Police Department’s shooting investigation identified the suspect as the late Alex Cox, Pawlowski’s uncle and the brother of Lori Vallow. The shooting is part of a chain of events linked to the case of Vallow’s two children, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Vallow, who went missing in Idaho after she moved them from Chandler to Rexburg, Idaho in the fall of 2019.

Chad Daybell: Maricopa County Attorney's Office refuses to prosecute Idaho man for attempted murder of Arizonan

Chad Daybell is at the center of a complex case involving the death of his first wife, as well as the deaths of his new wife's two children, in a case that has garnered national and global media attention. In 2021, Gilbert Police recommended attempted murder charges for Daybell and his new wife, Lori Vallow, in connection with the attempted murder of Vallow's niece's ex-husband. (March 2022 report)

Authorities found the siblings dead nine months later in the backyard of Chad Daybell, Vallow’s fifth husband. Prosecutors say the two justified the killings including the murder of Daybell’s first wife Tammy by relying on extreme religious beliefs.

In November 2021, Gilbert police recommended attempted murder charges to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office to be filed against Vallow and Daybell, who were believed to orchestrate the shooting. Prosecutors chose not to charge Daybell and Vallow’s case is still being reviewed. Charges for Pawlowski were not submitted to MCAO.

Vallow is also charged with conspiring to kill her fourth husband, Charles Vallow, who was fatally shot by Alex Cox in Chandler back in July 2019.

Pawlowski identity theft investigation

New details in Mesa PD’s identity theft investigation of Pawlowski reveals she used a copy of a $12,000 check deposited into Boudreaux’s business bank account to present as an exhibit during a family custody hearing. Boudreaux and Pawlowski went through a long court battle over their four children, after their 2019 divorce.

According to Mesa’s police report, Pawlowski agreed to take herself off the bank account for Boudreaux’s business known as Cougar Consulting. Bank records show Pawlowski accessed the Chase bank account several months after signing the divorce decree. Investigators say Pawlowski was supposed to remove herself from the account no more than 60 days after the sale of the former couple’s property on October 3, 2019. The account was accessed sometime after March 2, 2020.

Relative of Tylee Ryan and Joshua Vallow fears for his life

Brandon Boudreaux claims the mother of Tylee Ryan and Joshua Vallow heavily influenced his ex-wife through a religious group. So much so that she left Arizona for Idaho after an attempt on his life failed. (January 2020 report)

The investigation started in November 2021 and a detective with Mesa PD interviewed Pawlowski’s attorney Garrett Smith. According to the report, Smith admitted Pawlowski was indeed removed from the bank account when she logged into the online account only because the login information had not changed.

"Garrett told me it is not Melani’s fault that Brandon was ‘dumb’ and did not change the login information until three days after Melani accessed the online account," the detective recounted in the police report.

Smith told police that Pawlowski believed Boudreaux owed her money from the check and that is why she logged into the account to get a copy to her attorney.

MORE: Gilbert Town Attorney: Family members of Melani Pawlowski connected to criminal investigations

The investigation concluded with the detective finding probable cause to charge Pawlowski with one count of computer tampering which is a class 3 felony.

"Melani Pawlowski knowingly accessed Brandon Boudreaux’s Chase bank business account for Cougar Consulting," reported the detective.

Her next hearing is set for September 26 and a sentence for a class 3 felony could result in probation and up to one year in jail or two to 8.75 years in prison.

Intense 911 call details arrest of Lori Vallow's niece amidst trespassing accusations

New details surrounding the family of Lori Vallow continue to emerge, months following the disappearance of two children with ties to Arizona.

Pawlowski has a criminal record in Utah. She was arrested for criminal trespassing with a domestic violence enhancement in November 2019 when police say she tried to get her children who were staying with Boudreaux’s parents in American Fork City in two separate incidents. The grandparents called 911 when Pawlowski would not leave the property.

Pawlowski was convicted and then sentenced in December of 2020 and put on probation according to court records.
