IMF to lower global economic growth forecast due to US tariffs — Bloomberg

The world’s economy is expected to experience the first shock waves provoked by Washington’s tariff policy very soon, according to the agency

NEW YORK, April 20. /TASS/. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) may revise downward the forecast of global economic growth due to trade tariffs introduced by the US administration, Bloomberg news agency said.

The world’s economy is expected to experience the first shock waves provoked by Washington’s tariff policy very soon. The IMF may therefore announce lowering of the global forecast next Tuesday, the news agency said.

IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva assumed the downward revision of the forecast for global economic growth because of US tariffs in an online interview with Reuters.

Tariffs create high uncertainty and undermine confidence, she said.
The longer will be the uncertainty, the stronger will be its impact of world economy’s growth, Georgieva noted.

Kiev will not become part of NATO, it’s out of the question — Trump’s special envoy

NEW YORK, April 19. /TASS/.
Ukraine will not become part of NATO; the issue of Kiev's accession to the alliance is not under discussion, according to Keith Kellogg, the US presidential special envoy for Ukraine and Russia.

"We've been very clear: NATO is off the table. You're not going to be part of it. That's something that's not new. We've been talking about that since 2008 when Ambassador Burns told Condoleezza Rice, this was a bridge too far," Kellogg stated on Fox News.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that, despite Vladimir Zelensky’s desire for Ukraine to join NATO, it will never happen. He also suggested that the Ukrainian conflict may have been triggered by Kiev’s ambitions to join the alliance.

As Bloomberg reported earlier, Washington presented its allies in Paris with proposals for a Ukrainian settlement. These include a refusal to discuss Kiev's NATO membership and the easing of sanctions against Russia. Additionally, the US draft stipulates that all territories liberated by Russia shall remain under Russian control. Discussions on these proposals are set to continue in London next week.

Step by mechanical step, dozens of humanoid robots took to the streets of Beijing early Saturday, joining thousands of their flesh-and-blood counterparts in a world-first half marathon showcasing China's drive to lead the global race in cutting-edge technology...

"Getting onto the race track might seem like a small step for humans, but it's a giant leap for ," Liang Liang, Beijing E-Town's management committee deputy director, told AFP before the event. Nearby, engineers jogged alongside their machines.

"The marathon helps push humanoid robots one step closer toward industrialization."

China, the world's second-largest economy, has sought to assert its dominance in the fields of AI and robotics

"Honestly, there are very few opportunities for the whole industry to run at full speed over such a long distance or duration. It's a serious test for the battery, the motors, the structure—even the algorithms."

China, the world's second-largest economy, has sought to assert its dominance in the fields of AI and robotics.

Cui said as part of its training, a had been running a half-marathon every day, at a pace of about seven minutes per kilometer, and he expected it to complete the race with no issues.

"But just in case, we've also prepared a backup robot," he added.

Another young , 25-year-old Kong Yichang from DroidUp, said the race would help to "lay a foundation for a whole series of future activities involving humanoid robots".

"The significance (of the race) lies in the fact that humanoid robots can truly integrate into and begin doing things that humans do."
