Dia de Los Muertos Gets The Attention It Deserves

No Spooks! No Trick-or-Treat [Wotz that all about?]
No Goblins > A Celebration Of Life!
Indigenous cultural traditions join the Mainstream > Wanna call it "Family Friendly" for sure and your ancestors and their spirits are invited - the dearly departed are important part.
For a good look at Day of The Dead as an introduction to this centuries-old tradition please go to the Smithsonian Institute's Center for Latino Initiatives >http://latino.si.edu/dayofthedead/
The fourth annual 2015 Festival organized by the Cultural Coalition culturalcoalition.com is next Sunday

Probably one of the most exciting and colorful will be on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 12 noon-6 at Steele Indian School Park in Phoenix. Music and dance performances, family activities, Mercado de artesanias, and foods.
There will be a sunset candlelight procession respecting the traditions of visiting cemeteries [or pantheons the correct word in Spanish].

There will be a fundraiser for this event this Thursday at 7:00 pm [see 411 to right]
There's a KickStarter campaign also.

Tempe Town Lake was the location for another celebration last Sunday that was well attended.

The Mesa Arts Center is having a Day of The Dead Festival for two days, Saturday Oct 24 10-5 & Sunday Oct 25 12-5.
Individuals, families and groups will participate in an Altar Contest presented by Mesa Arts Center in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico in Phoenix and the Mesa Association of Hispanic Citizens.
. . . An Altar Contest?????
Only in Mesa, kids - it's not an authentic part of the tradition

In addition to SRP, one of the sponsors is an organization called Friends of Mexican Art.

Thanks for highlighting the Annual Dia de Los Muertos PHX Festival. It is going to be once again the largest gathering of masked performers in the Southwest! And we really appreciate being recognized as an authentic indigenous celebration!
