The Sharing Economy: Human Connections/Trust/Commerce > Incredible Results

Ah O Yes! A mellow Sunday night here in downtown . . . at least for a while.
Time to reflect on just one year getting online with the blog

Much to my surprise, thank you dear readers for over 26,000 hits to date and landing on this page surprisingly with over 500 posts that were uploaded by yours truly.
One of the things that keeps me going is the strength and force of ideas, like featuring these talks from TED. You might ask What does that have to do with anything? Watch and listen and find out
The Sharing Economy is a socio-economic ecosystem built around the sharing of human and physical resources. It includes the shared creation, production, distribution, trade and consumption of goods and services by different people and organisations.

Joe Gebbia, the co-founder of Airbnb, bet his whole company on the belief that people can trust each other enough to stay in one another's homes. It's that centuries-old thing called hospitality.
How did he overcome the stranger-danger bias? Through good design.
Well, ya. Maybe not as simple and ethereal as that. Kinda start out as a bot on some Craigslist action, according to one comment on the YouTube upload [see link at end of this post]
Working out those kinks and assembling a great team, here are the incredible results six years after start-up [image to the left]

The figure is now 123,000,000 nights booked.
Jowl mentions in the talk that in just one night 785,000 played hosts in over 190 countries.

Now, 123 million hosted nights (and counting) later, Gebbia sets out his dream for a culture of sharing in which design helps foster community and connection instead of isolation and separation.
Do ya think this has something to say about suburban development and gated communities?
As a designer, entrepreneur and the co-founder and Chief Product Officer of Airbnb, Joe helped redesign the way the world travels and people connect.

Today, homes are designed around the idea of privacy and separation. What if homes were designed to be shared from the ground up? What would that look like?
What if cities embraced a culture of sharing? I see a future of shared cities that bring us community and connection instead of isolation and separation.

Here's the comment: I'm not hating, it's genius idea that worked for them and I LOVE Airbnb. :)
