That's the forecast from an article online yesterday about stakeholders from throughout the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) community writing a letter to Trump – from manufacturers to business users to government officials – urged the creation of a pilot program for state and local governments to work with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to integrate UAS into the skies above their communities.
The letter, led by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), details the importance of federal control of the airspace and outlines a pilot program to get input from states and municipalities to develop policy on UAS operations.
"Industry-government collaboration is critical to identifying common solutions to the industry’s greatest challenges, such as airspace integration” said AUVSI president and CEO Brian Wynne.

Arizona UAS Summit Adds Tour of Polytechnic School at ASU to Program Agenda
Mesa, AZ – (October 11, 2017) – – Last week, the 2nd Annual Arizona UAS Summit & Expo announced they have added an industry tour to the program agenda. The specialized tour is designed specifically for the attendees of the Arizona UAS Summit and will provide opportunities for attendees to visit with the brightest and best researchers, faculty, students and experts at the award-winning Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at the Polytechnic School on the campus of Arizona State University.

AUSA 2017: US Army eyes Nightwarden

Alongside showcasing its Nightwarden UAS to the US Army for the first time at AUSA, Textron has also made gains with its Shadow V2 upgrade programme.
The company said that Nightwarden had been well received by the service during the event and questions had been asked regarding when the company could be production ready with the Fury weapon system payload.
When asked, Bill Irby, senior VP of unmanned systems, could not confirm to Shephard when this would be, however the Nightwarden UAS itself has been production ready since its launch.
The new UAS, unveiled for the first time at Paris Air Show 2017, is shown at AUSA equipped with two Textron Fury guided weapons. . . Meanwhile, the company’s Shadow V2 is continuing to be developed for the US Army. Textron recently received a contract for 38 high power launchers to accommodate the upgraded UAS’ weight, . . A $206 million logistics support contract to Textron Systems Support Solutions for the Shadow UAS was awarded by the US Army in January 2017. . .

UAVOS enhances GPS spoofing protection for UAVs

UAVOS has improved the GPS spoofing identification algorithms for its UAVs, protecting against jamming by the most advanced electronic warfare (EW) systems, the company announced on 9 October.
During the test flights, UAS were equipped with an automatic control system that steadily resisted attempts to interfere with the operation of the on-board GPS autopilot.
According to Vadim Tarasov, UAVOS investor and board member, in a GPS denied envrionment, the UAVOS measures against GPS and other GNSS signals spoofing attacks allows the timely disabling of the GPS navigation and a switch to autonomous flight with onboard integrated inertial navigation system.
The advanced UAVOS countermeasure system ensures the protection of unmanned aircraft, increases survivability and the efficiency of the UAV.
An UAV equipped with a complex of countermeasures against EW systems allows them to return to base and carry out its mission with navigation error of 1.2–2.5 miles per flight hour.
Vadim Tarasov said: ‘The GPS spoofing attack countermeasure system is the result of many years of systematic work by UAVOS in the field of EW countermeasures.
‘Test flights of our unmanned vehicles showed the effectiveness of the mission accomplishment in conditions of a complex interference and the invulnerability of unmanned vehicles to the latest generation EW systems.’
