4 Re-Appointments of Mesa City Councilmembers To National League of Cities Committees

The National League of Cities is the nation's largest and most prestigious organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, town and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
The appointments were announced by NLC President Karen Freeman-Wilson, mayor of Gary, Indiana.
 
Councilmember Thompson re-appointed as Vice Chair of NLC committee

District 6 Councilmember Kevin Thompson has been re-appointed as the Vice Chair of the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Community and Economic Development (CED) Federal Advocacy Committee for 2019.
The CED Committee is charged with issues dealing with housing, community and economic development, land use, parks and recreation, historic preservation and international competitiveness.
 
 
Councilmember Heredia re-appointed to NLC committee
December 17, 2018 at 2:45 pmDistrict 3 Councilmember Francisco Heredia has been re-appointed to the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Human Development (HD) Federal Advocacy Committee for 2019, his second term on the committee. 
The Human Development Committee is responsible for developing policy positions on issues involving social services, children and learning, poverty and income support, employment and workforce development, equal opportunity, Social Security and seniors, individuals with disabilities, public health care, mental health parity and immigration reform. 
 
Councilmember Whittaker re-appointed to NLC committee

District 2 Councilmember Jeremy Whittaker has been re-appointed to the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations (FAIR) Federal Advocacy Committee for 2019, his second term on the committee. 
The FAIR Committee is responsible for developing policy positions on issues involving national economic policy, general financial assistance programs, liability insurance, intergovernmental relations, Census, municipal bonds and capital finance, municipal management, anti-trust issues, citizen participation and civil rights, labor relations, Native American sovereignty and municipal authority.
 
Councilmember Freeman re-appointed to NLC committee

District 1 Councilmember Mark Freeman has been re-appointed to the National League of Cities’ (NLC) Public Safety and Crime Prevention (PSCP) Federal Advocacy Committee for 2018, his second term on the committee.
The PSCP Committee has the lead responsibility for developing NLC federal policy positions on issues involving crime prevention, municipal fire policy, disaster preparedness and relief, homeland security and court systems
