The Center on the United States and Europe (CUSE) at Brookings will host Laurence Boone, chief economist at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), for the 15th annual Raymond Aron Lecture. In her remarks, Boone will discuss how to rehabilitate our trans-Atlantic economies from the devastation of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to joining the OECD, Laurence Boone was the chief economist at AXA Group, served as special advisor to French President François Hollande, and was the chief economist and managing director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Following her address, Harvard University professor Jason Furman, who served as the 28th chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers from August 2013 to January 2017, will respond to her remarks. Vice President and Director of Foreign Policy Suzanne Maloney and French Ambassador to the United States Philippe Étienne will provide welcome remarks. Brookings Nonresident Senior Fellow Doug Rediker will moderate the discussion. After the program, panelists will answer questions from the audience. Viewers can submit questions by emailing events@brookings.edu or by joining the conversation on Twitter with #AronLecture. The Raymond Aron lecture series, named after the renowned scholar of post-war France, annually features leading French and American personalities speaking on current issues affecting the trans-Atlantic relationship.
