Applications opened March 2 and closed April 10.
Jaye O’Donnell reported that Mesa had applied for the National League of Cities First Tier Suburbs grant in April and won. Mesa will host a virtual summit on September 15-16 focusing on small business development services across the East Valley.
We will look at what we are providing as municipalities, identify potential gaps, and look at how to leverage our resources collectively to address those gaps and to build small business resiliency.
A local survey is being conducted to look at what our small business development service partners are doing. That research and the survey results will also be presented on the first day of the summit. . .

We’ve launched an Economic Development Pilot Program to help one city—or a group of cities in a region—identify and leverage their economic strengths and opportunities.
...Many of our cities were once agrarian, farm communities that evolved into what we are today. The great post-WWII push that created the car-based commuter-driver culture was the beginning of the suburb.

The Mid-America Regional Council, a nonprofit that serves the nine county Kansas City metropolitan area won the award. MARC as it is known sought economic advice on the area's housing market and access to affordable housing.
The consulting was provide pro bono by TIP Strategies, who provided economic data analysis and hosted a one-day summit for stakeholders in the Kansas City area.
TIP collaborated with the MARC research team to conduct a detailed analysis of the issue using adjusted single-family unit appraisal data for more than 300,000 units.
The one-day regional housing summit report focused on five major strategies:
1. Promoting knowledge sharing
2. Preserving existing housing.
3. Increase the amount of available housing.
4. Increase access to and availability of financing.
