Not-So-Noble Art Auction: "Trump Descending An Escalator"

Super-size Kitsch up-for-bidding and the timing is right two weeks before the 2020 Election - a riff and homage to Classic Cubism and alien-eyed absurd cartoon characters. It was created as a fund-raiser in 2017 generating some controversy to sell to an anonymous  bidder  for $200,000. Estimates for an upcoming auction in London on October 20th are about $750,000. New York artist Dana Schultz claims her works "are not overtly political."

“Trump Descending an Escalator” by Dana Schutz

The 2017 painting by New York artist Dana Schutz depicts a familiar stocky figure with bulging eyes riding down a golden escalator. The work is a highlight of the 20th century and contemporary art auction at Phillips being held just two weeks before the U.S. election. About 7-feet-tall and 6-feet-wide, it will be offered in London on Oct. 20, with an estimate of 380,000 pounds to 580,000 pounds ($750,000).

According to an article cited below, the artist's record-setting selling price for any other work was $2.4 million.
