Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine will become a member of the European Union regardless of the position of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

On Monday, October 6, Zelenskyy expressed confidence that the Hungarian people support Ukraine in any case.

“Ukraine will be in the European Union — with Orban or without him, because this is the choice of the Ukrainian people,” the president emphasized.

Zelenskyy commented on possible changes to EU accession procedures that would remove the need for unanimous approval:

“Changing the procedure means finding a way to move forward without [Hungary]. When the majority — all countries except Hungary — support Ukraine and understand why it’s necessary,” he noted.

  • The president also reminded that Ukraine has fulfilled all the technical requirements to open the first cluster in EU accession talks.
Orbán recently reiterated that Hungarians “do not want to be in one union with Ukrainians” so as “not to share their fate” — a fate that, in his view, means being close to Russia.
He also claimed that Ukraine is not a sovereign state, since its bills are paid by EU members.

Zelenskyy believes that Hungary’s obstruction of Ukraine’s EU path is driven by domestic political reasons.

The European Commission has said that opening negotiation clusters for Ukraine without Hungary’s consent “could be considered,” though the final decision must be made by EU member states.

The U.S. has unblocked Patriot supplies, but now everything depends on funding through the PURL program, Zelensky said.

“This is the mechanism through which we purchase air defense systems in the United States. The key contributors are the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway. These are the countries that have made the main contributions,”
he noted.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine has already begun talks with these countries about a second phase of contributions, since “we are not seeing enough speed from others.”

The president also denied that the U.S. government shutdown had affected arms deliveries:

“The Americans have not blocked anything. I know what was said in the media — about the shutdown and certain challenges — but they have not stopped supplies to Ukraine.”

“Russia will do everything to stop us from extracting our own gas,” — Zelenskyy.

The president warned that the Kremlin will intensify attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector, particularly gas production.

“It will be difficult to protect everything. But we are preparing reserves so that people have gas and electricity. We will fight and increase our own production step by step,”
Zelenskyy emphasized.

Earlier, Zelenskyy stated that the U.S. Did Not Stop Delivering Weapons to Ukraine Despite the Government Shutdown.

  • Recall that The Telegraph reported U.S. military aid could be delayed because of the government shutdown.

Zelenskyy was asked whether Ukrainian “Flamingo” missiles strike Russian territory.

“In recent days Ukraine has used not only drones but also other indigenous long-range systems for strikes,” the president said.

He added that Ukraine will publicly announce the use of its long-range capabilities later, so as not to inform the enemy.

Our Ukrainian weaponry is among the most effective in Europe, and we are ready to produce far more modern weapons. To do that, we need appropriate financing. I thank the Netherlands for supporting our production programs.

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, the capacity of Ukraine’s defense industry has increased by tenfold, and this potential must continue to grow. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during his speech at the third International Defense Industries Forum in Kyiv. The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, also attended the event.

This high-level visit once again underscored strong Ukrainian-Dutch partnership, which rests firmly on a foundation of shared democratic values, unwavering respect for sovereignty and international law, and the recognition that Europe’s borders must remain inviolable and cannot be redrawn through aggression or the use of force.

n the midst of a full-scale war, we are able to hold such events, which demonstrate Ukrainian strength that only continues to grow. And this says a lot, primarily, about our resilience: the resilience of the Ukrainian state and the inner strength of our people.

In Kyiv, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dick Schoof honored the memory of fallen Ukrainian defenders.

On the night of October 5, Russia launched a combined strike on Ukraine, deploying 549 missiles and drones that contained over 100,000 foreign-made components – sourced from companies in the United States, China and Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Netherlands. This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy in his address.
