What's Driving the Affordable Housing Shortage + Expanding Health Access

 + FROM THE CEO

Dear LISC Community,

As we reach the midpoint of 2026, it's an important opportunity to reflect on both the urgency of our work and the progress we are making together. Through disciplined, mission-driven lending, we are ensuring that developers, partners, and local leaders have the resources they need to move projects forward and deliver meaningful outcomes in the communities we serve. At LISC, lending is central to how we provide this critical support. Our strategy is grounded in a core pillar of our 2025–2027 strategic plan: expanding access to capital.

In the first half of the year, our lending efforts have focused on deploying flexible capital where it can have the greatest impact; helping to close financing gaps, accelerate project timelines, and strengthen the capacity of our partners. A key priority remains increasing the supply of affordable housing by financing additional units through both new development and the preservation of existing assets.

These updates demonstrate the strength and range of LISC's lending activity to date. I want to spotlight an over $7 million investment to support the restoration and redevelopment of the historic Park Synagogue into an arts and community campus in Cleveland Heights, an example of how we're deploying capital in partnership with local organizations to support community development at scale. We also share our latest report about the state of affordable housing with an op-ed about how increased flexibility could multiply the impact of future federal credit enhancement awards.

As we look ahead to the second half of 2026, we remain focused on expanding our lending reach, deepening partnerships, and advancing solutions that increase housing supply, empower small businesses, expand education access, and strengthen local economies. We welcome the opportunity to work alongside you. Please connect with us to explore how we can best support your projects and financing needs.

Sincerely,

Dr. Bryan K. Kieler
Senior Vice President, Chief Lending Officer

Uber and LISC expand their joint Health Access Fund by announcing up to $750,000 in new grants to help nonprofit healthcare providers connect economically vulnerable people to transportation for vital health services. Funded by Uber and managed by LISC, the Fund supports free rides through Uber Health, Uber’s HIPAA-enabled dashboard and API solution, so patients can reach their critical healthcare appointments.
