Here’s a round of responses to Facebook’s move away from news:
On Friday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the social media site will prioritize content from friends and family over content from brands and professional publishers.
Live and news video will be deemphasized, too.
> Some see this “wild reversal” in line with Zuckerberg’s personal goal to fix Facebook in 2018 — maybe Facebook’s new ambition is to rebalance and shrink its massive and messy global footprint.
> Others say that in the post-Trump media landscape, Facebook killing news is “the best thing that ever happened to news.”
Adam Mosseri, the product boss for Facebook’s News Feed, talks in depth about the site’s recent sweeping changes (Mosseri is scheduled to speak at Code Media next month).
> “Facebook is done with quality journalism — deal with it,” says media thinker Frederic Filloux, who says Facebook is moving on from news after killing such longstanding industry certainties as brand, authorship and business model.

The myth of the liberal international order

"The phrase international order reminds me of the phrase Western civilization. As Indian independence icon Mahatma Gandhi wittily replied when asked about Western civilization, "It would be a good idea." The notion that international order exists or has ever existed seems highly questionable to me. The notion of a liberal international order is even more questionable because it is neither liberal, nor international, nor very orderly.
It is often claimed by political scientists that the liberal international order came into existence in 1945. The argument goes that American and British statesmen, having learned from the terrible mistakes of the 1930s and 1940s, decided to make the world anew by creating a series of remarkable international institutions: the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and later the World Bank. According to this narrative, Donald Trump's election as US president in 2016 was a wrecking ball directed at the liberal international order created by the generation of 1945.
It is often claimed by political scientists that the liberal international order came into existence in 1945. The argument goes that American and British statesmen, having learned from the terrible mistakes of the 1930s and 1940s, decided to make the world anew by creating a series of remarkable international institutions: the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and later the World Bank. According to this narrative, Donald Trump's election as US president in 2016 was a wrecking ball directed at the liberal international order created by the generation of 1945.
Yet this is a fairy tale . . . "
What comes next?
". . . There are two possible scenarios. In one, China and the US collide over both commercial and geopolitical issues and fall into the "Thucydides Trap" about which Graham Allison has written in his book Destined for War.
The much preferable alternative is that China and the US recognize their common interests as great powers facing multiple threats, such as Islamic terrorism, nuclear proliferation, cyber warfare and climate change. But they will not be able to do so as a team of two. They will need the support of the other great powers represented as permanent members of the UN Security Council: Britain, France and Russia. A key issue for the next 10 years is whether Russia can be persuaded to work collaboratively with the other great powers.

MPX Signs Agreement With Israeli Pharmaceutical Company Panaxia for the Production and Marketing of Pharma-Grade Cannabinoid Products
TORONTO, Jan. 15, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — MPX Bioceutical Corporation (the “Company” or “MPX”) (CSE:MPX) (OTC:MPXEF) today announced that further to its press release dated August 22, 2017, it has entered into a definitive agreement with Panaxia Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (“Panaxia”) through its wholly-owned subsidiary Salus BioPharma Corporation (“Salus BioPharma”), a company engaged in the business of development and production of pharma grade cannabidiol medicinal products, medicinal preparations and medicinal accessories (the “CBD Products”).
Panaxia will provide the capital and equipment to build out and equip the manufacturing facility and will supply the non-active ingredients and compounds for formulation and packaging.
