Berger Ammunition to Load US SOCOM Advanced Sniper Rifle Ammunition
Berger 300 Norma Mag & 338 Norma Mag to be loaded for SOCOM (Capstone Group)
Back in March 2019, US SOCOM selected the Barrett MRAD to fulfill their requirement for an AdvancedSniper Rifle (ASR). At the end of last year, Nighforce’s MIL-SPEC ATACR 5-25×56 Dayscope and their MIL-SPEC ATACR 7-35×56 Long Range Dayscope l were selected as the go-to optics for the new SOCOM ASR. Now Berger have announced that they have been sub-contracted to produce .300 NormaMagnum and .338 Norma Magnum for SOCOM’s ASRs.

The sub-contract awarded by the Ultra Defense Corporation will see Berger load 800,000 rounds of 300 Norma Mag and 200,000 rounds of 338 Norma Mag in a one-year agreement. Berger are a part of the Capstone Precision Group, who in turn are part of the Nammo Commercial Business Area. Theammunition will be loaded and tested at Capstone’s facility in Mesa, Arizona.

“I announced my planned retirement 18-months ago and hired Dan in January 2019 to accept this role in 2Q 2020,” said Bill Gravatt. Dan joined Capstone as the General Manager of Mesa, AZ operations which includes Berger Bullets and Berger Ammunition production. Gravatt added, “I am confident that Dan will do an outstanding job leading Capstone as the premier component and ammunition brands in the US. We have an excellent group of team members within Capstone so he is inheriting a fantastic team.”

Thelen brings over 22 years of experience in finance and operations within the shooting sports industry.
Before joining Capstone as general manager, he was chief financial officer at Hodgdon Powder Co. and previously director of operations for Modern Muzzeloading, Inc. Thelen will oversee Capstone’s Mesa, AZ manufacturing and Sedalia, MO distribution center.
Gravatt will remain as a managing director on the Capstone Precision Group Board of Directors.
