Virtual 2-Day Summit > Pro-Bono Economic Analysis Pilot Program For First Tier Suburbs + Ex-Urbs
This is about an economic development pilot project to help suburbs and exurbs to acquire pro bono economic analysis in a grant from The National League of Cities
2020 FIRST TIER SUBURBS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMNLC is partnering with TIP Strategies to offer national economic analysis to a first tier community on a topic of critical importance to that municipality. Get data analysis and insights to help your community address shared opportunities and challenges.
Applications opened March 2 and closed April 10.
Jaye O’Donnell reported that Mesa had applied for the National League of Cities First Tier Suburbs grant in April and won. Mesa will host a virtual summit on
We will look at what we are providing as municipalities, identify potential gaps, and look at how to leverage our resources collectively to address those gaps and to build small business resiliency.
A local survey is being conducted to look at what our small business development service partners are doing. That research and the survey results will also be presented on the first day of the summit. . .

Last year in Fall 2018, NLC's First Tier Suburbs Council announced a pilot project that would award consulting on economic development to a first tier city or group of cities.
The Mid-America Regional Council, a nonprofit that serves the nine county Kansas City metropolitan area won the award. MARC as it is known sought economic advice on the area's housing market and access to affordable housing.
The consulting was provide pro bono by TIP Strategies, who provided economic data analysis and hosted a one-day summit for stakeholders in the Kansas City area.
TIP collaborated with the MARC research team to conduct a detailed analysis of the issue using adjusted single-family unit appraisal data for more than 300,000 units.
The one-day regional housing summit report focused on five major strategies:
1. Promoting knowledge sharing
2. Preserving existing housing.
3. Increase the amount of available housing.
4. Increase access to and availability of financing.
5. Enact regulatory changes.
