NATO IS PURCHASING IT'S OWN DRONES, THE ALLIANCE IS MOVING AWAY FROM THE...

The RQ-4D at a ceremony in Italy last week. They flew 22 hours from California
After years of delay and shrinking budgets, NATO will buy its first ever spy drones later this year. But it's a tentative entry, at best, into the ranks of the unmanned systems revolution. The five new robotic spies won't actually join the transatlantic military alliance's air fleet until the end of the decade. NATO's member-states have their own drone fleets, of course: the United States waged a robotic war over Libya when NATO aided the Libyan revolution last year, and American drones are key to the NATO campaign in Afghanistan.
But the alliance itself doesn't jointly own or operate any drones. And it views the recent round of budget cuts that hack at European members' defense cash as an opportunity to change that.

World Food Programme Wins 2020 Nobel Peace Prize

A HUNGER CRISIS
To prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war . . . The committee chose to highlight hunger in this year’s peace prize after a deterioration in circumstances over recent years. In 2019, 135 million people suffered from acute hunger, the highest number in many years, it said. Most of the increase was caused by war and armed conflict.
The World Food Programme was awarded the 2020 Nobel PeacePrize for its efforts to combat hunger, particularly in conflict zones. The organization is being honored “for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee said on Friday. The need for international solidarity and multilateral cooperation is “more conspicuous than ever,” the committee said. The World Food Program is the world’s biggest humanitarian group to specifically address hunger and to work toward food security, it said. Last year, the World Food Programme helped close to 100 million people in 88 countries in the face of acute food insecurity and hunger. The WFP is also the main body through which the United Nations works toward eradicating hunger as one of the Sustainable Development Goals. ______________________________________________ Annual prizes for achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, peace and literature were established in the will of Alfred Nobel, the Swedish inventor of dynamite, who died in 1896. The prize in economic sciences was added by Sweden’s central bank in 1968. Last year’s peace prize went to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for his work to end almost two decades of conflict with neighboring Eritrea. Previous laureates include Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Barack Obama, Martin Luther King and the European Union. The Nobel Foundation announced last month it was increasing the amount awarded for individual prizes to 10 million kronor ($1.1 million), from 9 million kronor previously, to reflect a rise in the returns generated on its capital.

Minerd Says Fed's Main Street Lending Program > A 'Disaster'

The banks got a big windfall, but they don't want to take a big loss underwriting securities being the first guarantor of loans for small businesses. The question is more in combination with The Treasury where there will be losses getting money into inner-cities and minority-owned businesses
Oct.09 -- Scott Minerd, Guggenheim Global chief investment officer, says the Federal Reserve's Main Street Lending Program intended to aid small businesses impacted by the pandemic has been a "disaster."

Dining Outdoors in Downtown Mesa: Chairs & Tables On The Sidewalks In The Path of Light Rail Transit

Fast-Food Casual or otherwise - is the City of Mesa serious about financing this with COVID-19 "Pots of Money" when there's more than 140 days of sizzling temperatures in excess of 100 degrees?? . . . and when is there fresh air? (That's the meaning of alfresco guys!)
Pardon me for being skeptical but that is your MesaZona blogger's responsive reaction to one more preposterous proposition from the city's Office of Development Services:
application for restaurant expansions
Application to expand outdoor dining for restaurants and bars

Celebrating Day of The Dead > Dias de Los Muertos : MIKIZTI- Día de Los Muertos

We celebrate our ancestors - those who have come before in The Past and we invite them back now to connect their spirits with ours in Times of The 2020 Pandemic. We have many ways to celebrate this opening to The Portal to The Past to remind us of our cultural heritage through all the centuries unique to what we now call 'Latin America'.
Those time-honored traditions now come back-to-life when we embrace our shared cultures. Here in Mesa, where some people believe in good faith that history started in the 1850's and we are starting to heal the scars inflicted by Russell Pearce's SB1070, we are all moving on beyond exclusion to embrace and to re-invigorate - we do that in many ways with two celebrations featured in this post that are quite different from 'Halloween'.
A few years ago your MesaZona blogger made it a point to be in Mexico City both at Almeda Square and in The Zocalo, and celebrating for days with the families of people who worked with me in kitchens in New York City where we prepared the customary foods of The Day of The Dead. Nothing of that prepared me for how the holidays are celebrated there in their Tierra! by la gente . This is about as close to all that here in Arizona:
