Celebrating Day of The Dead > Dias de Los Muertos : MIKIZTI- Día de Los Muertos

We celebrate our ancestors - those who have come before in The Past and we invite them back now to connect their spirits with ours in Times of The 2020 Pandemic. We have many ways to celebrate this opening to The Portal to The Past to remind us of our cultural heritage through all the centuries unique to what we now call 'Latin America'.
Those time-honored traditions now come back-to-life when we embrace our shared cultures. Here in Mesa, where some people believe in good faith that history started in the 1850's and we are starting to heal the scars inflicted by Russell Pearce's SB1070, we are all moving on beyond exclusion to embrace and to re-invigorate - we do that in many ways with two celebrations featured in this post that are quite different from 'Halloween'.
A few years ago your MesaZona blogger made it a point to be in Mexico City both at Almeda Square and in The Zocalo, and celebrating for days with the families of people who worked with me in kitchens in New York City where we prepared the customary foods of The Day of The Dead. Nothing of that prepared me for how the holidays are celebrated there in their Tierra! by la gente . This is about as close to all that here in Arizona:
