4 ELEMENTS IMPACTING MARICOPA COUNTY...How Bad Can It Get? Bad & Dangerous

Earth, Air, Fire & Water
Night-time temperatures have risen twice as fast as daytime highs over the past three decades, according to National Weather Service data.

As Phoenix swelters, the nights are even worse than the boiling days

Temperature topped 110F on four consecutive days and has not fallen below 80F at night-time for the past week in the Arizona city, breaking several records

"After a record-breaking daytime temperature in Phoenix last Friday, the onset of night offered little relief from the sweltering heat. As the clock struck midnight it was still a staggering 100F (38C) outside . . . The overnight low on Friday was a suffocating 90F – the first time it stayed so hot so early in the season according to the national weather service (NWS) . This broke the previous overnight record for 10 June by a staggering 5F. . .

Phoenix, the capital of Arizona and America’s fifth largest city with 1.6 million people, is accustomed to a hot desert climate, but temperatures are rising due to global heating and urban development which has created a sprawling asphalt and concrete heat island that traps heat especially at night. The city has appointed a heat tsar to coordinate efforts to mitigate and adapt to the extreme heat that is killing record numbers of people.

This was the first extreme heat wave of the season for Phoenix – and large swaths of the US south-west of the country – with the temperature topping 110F on four consecutive days, including two new daily records. Even before this extra hot spell, the county medical examiner was investigating 30 possible heat-related deaths dating back to April – 60% more than the same time last year. Another excessive heat spell is forecast for later this week. . .

> Health experts advise staying inside as much as possible to avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke, but this isn’t always an option. . .

> By mid morning on Saturday it was 110F, and in midtown the central library was filling up with folks trying to stay cool. The library is part of the city’s heat relief network but few cooling centres are open outside business hours, even though it remains dangerously hot in the evening. Still, it’s a lifesaver for locals with few other options including the street homeless. . .

GET WIRED: You'll be glad you did!

Intro: This article appears in the July/August issue. Subscribe now.
When you sit down to process the world, you face a choice.
You can become absorbed in the powers that be and decide to interpret them through the wild interconnected networks of the conspiracist. I’ve done that.
You can look at the big bold names who run your industry, who run the government, and see how many of them serve on each other’s boards. I’ve done that too. Still do. A lot.
Or you can look at just how much of the world is now available to anyone with a reasonable network connection and a desire to understand.
Things seem pretty grim, but I have kids to raise, and that’s what I’m going to show them: Instead of worrying about other people’s power, think of what you’ll download.
Hopefully you can do something better with it. . .

Life Is Great in the Age of No Secrets

It was fun looking at the world as a huge conspiracy theory, but then I realized: There’s no such thing as hidden knowledge.

Happy Friday! I spent most of my week in Washington D.C. as the House was back in session. It was a busy week, so I hope you’ll read below to learn about the important happenings:

1 House Passage of H.R. 7910 and H.R. 2377--the Democrats’ Gun Control Bills

This week, the House of Representative passed H.R. 7910, a compilation of multiple Democrat gun control bills. Each component—from raising the age for purchasing semi-automatic rifles and shotguns, to restricting magazine size, to micromanaging gun storage—would do little, if anything, to protect against future instances of violence, but would infringe Americans’ Second Amendment rights and add bureaucratic hurdles for law-abiding citizens to exercise those rights.

I unequivocally condemn the recent shootings that have occurred throughout our country. But it’s inappropriate for Democrats to use the heightened emotions of a grieving nation to push through a radical, anti-Second Amendment agenda.

Sadly, the root cause of the spates of violence we’re experiencing cannot be easily fixed by the federal government. For decades, my colleagues on the Left have pushed policies that have broken down the family, increased isolation, and driven wedges into society.

The public will not be safer under new gun control laws—the lawlessness in Democrat-run cities is a prime example of that fallacy. What will make the public safer, especially in our schools, is repealing laws that create gun-free zones, ensuring that there are armed school resource officers in schools to protect students, and improving the physical security of schools.

I will not stand by while Democrats infringe a God-given, constitutionally protected right by lying to the American people.

The House also passed H.R. 2377—another piece of gun control legislation. I strongly oppose this legislation and voted against it. This bill allows the government to seize an individual’s firearms and ammunition without due process.

COUNTER-NARRATIVE

‘Scared and Tired’: Thousands Across the U.S. Rally Against Gun Violence

As hundreds of demonstrations unfolded around the country on Saturday, supporters of gun control legislation cried out for action.

<div class=__reading__mode__extracted__imagecaption>Protesters rallying at the March for Our Lives demonstration on the National Mall in Washington on Saturday.Credit...Al Drago for The New York Times

WASHINGTON — After Uvalde, after Buffalo, after Parkland and Newtown and El Paso and hundreds of other mass shootings over the past two decades, thousands of protesters rallied against gun violence on Saturday in Washington, D.C., and in cities across the country.

With their signs, chants and mere presence, they condemned the drumbeat of mass shootings in the United States and renewed a call — so far, a futile one — for federal legislation to limit the use of the military-style weapons that have made many of them possible. Many vowed to fight the inaction at the polls. . .This time, the demonstration in Washington followed shootings last month that left 10 Black people dead in a Buffalo supermarket and killed 19 schoolchildren and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

The Saturday protests unfolded in hundreds of cities across the country and at a smattering of locations in Europe. . ."

2 House Oversight and Reform Committee Hearing on Gun Violence

On Wednesday, the House Oversight and Reform Committee held a hearing on gun violence. While I have no objection to holding a congressional hearing that considers crime, violence, and guns in America, I object strongly to the Democrats' exploitation of children who have been victimized so recently in Uvalde.

The child who was brought to testify before the Committee Tuesday was recently victimized and traumatized. The Chair of this committee was re-victimizing and re-traumatizing this child for political purposes.

Adults I interviewed who were inside the Uvalde school after the massacre were highly traumatized, even with their professional training and experience. They sought counseling and intervention.

A child of tender years, brought before this Committee to re-live the horror of the Uvalde murders is tantamount to child abuse and will no doubt add to the post-traumatic stress of the child going forward.

It is despicable that Chairwoman Maloney, locked in a bitter political struggle with the Chair of the Judiciary Committee, has chosen to add to the trauma of a child victim for what appears to be crass and cynical political purposes.

Because of my objection, I did not physically attend the first panel of this Committee hearing, but instead watched it via television. I attended and participated in the second panel.

3 Floor Speech on the Illegitimate Jan. 6 Committee

Yesterday, I gave a speech on the House floor denouncing the illegitimate January 6th Committee's primetime hearing last night. The FBI found no evidence President Trump or his allies coordinated any part of the Capitol riots. The January 6th Committee would like for you to ignore that. The Committee is quite unhappy with the facts of January 6th as they exist today. It’s why they recently hired a former ABC executive to help dramatize them.

Definition of the Week

Instead of focusing on our nation’s record inflation, historic gas prices, porous southern border, empty shelves of baby formula, and much more, Democrats and the mainstream media continue to focus their priorities on January 6th.

The tone deafness is unacceptable, but also believable. They don’t want to discuss or be held accountable for their disastrous policies that have sent this country into a downward spiral.

Courtesy of Michael Knowles’ Speechless, here’s what we think is the latest definition:

January 6th Committee: an illegitimate committee, mostly composed of Democrats, who seek to distract Americans from legitimate and more pressing domestic and international issues their party has created.

TRUMP'S LAVISH SAUDI DEALS: Gambling of LIV Golf

O Yeah another one!

SportsMoney

Daily Cover

Trump, Saudis Join Forces To Stick It To The PGA

With LIV Golf, the former president returns to hosting high-profile tournaments after his post-Jan. 6 banishment by the PGA of America.

By Justin Birnbaum

"Donald Trump is back. ( HUH? Did he ever go away??????????????????? )

Banished by the PGA of America after his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in January 2021, Trump has found a new home with the fledgling LIV Golf Tour’s inaugural eight-event series. The Saudi-backed tour, a deep-pockets challenge to the PGA Tour’s dominance, got underway this weekend in London. In July it will visit Trump’s course in Bedminster, New Jersey, where the former president spends the summer, and cap off its season at Trump’s Doral in Miami in October.

Trump’s involvement has not only pumped new life into his golf properties, it’s had the added bonus, for the ex-president at least, of sticking it to the PGA Tour by helping empower its most direct threat yet.

“I think [Trump] felt kind of spurned, and wanted to become relevant in golf,” says Jeff Woolson, managing director of CBRE’s Golf & Resort Group, a company that combines two of Trump’s passions, real estate and golf. “He’s a driven guy, he loves golf, and has always been relevant, and this is a way to become relevant again.”

On Thursday, the PGA Tour officially declared war against LIV, suspending the 17 golfers who jumped to the upstart tour, some for eye-popping paydays. The PGA Tour is even considering lifetime bans on defectors, according to Front Office Sports. In a statement, LIV Golf called the move “vindictive,” adding that it “deepens the divide between the Tour and its members.” Trump blasted both PGA of America and the Tour last month, posting on Truth Social that the PGA has “been taking advantage of the players for many years” and “LIV can change that!”

LIV is challenging the PGA Tour’s monopolistic grip on the pro sport with new rules and a seemingly boundless amount of cash to spend on lofty prize purses and astronomical signing bonuses. It’s run by two-time major champion Greg Norman and is named for the number of holes in each event (and also what a golfer would score if they were to birdie every hole on a par-72 course).

> In the last few weeks, the tour has lured the likes of Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau by reportedly shelling out more than $100 million in payments on each of them. Norman claims to have offered Tiger Woods a “mind-blowingly enormous” deal that would have been in the “high nine-digits,” according to the Washington Post. The eight LIV events, which feature no cuts and a team component, are slated to hand out a total of $255 million in prize money.

________________________________________________________________________________

LIV remains cloaked in controversy, much of which stems from the tour’s financing. It’s backed by a $2 billion commitment from the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s largest sovereign wealth funds with an estimated $580 billion under management. The PIF didn’t respond to a request for comment.

> The Saudis have also been connected to numerous human rights violations. A 2021 U.S. intelligence report linked Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the PIF chair, with the murder and dismemberment of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi in 2018. The Saudis called the report “negative, false and unacceptable.”

. . .The Saudis have a history of doing business with Trump, from buying entire floors in his Manhattan apartment building to booking rooms in his Washington hotel while he was president.

. . .> Trump’s penchant to funnel money into creating lavish, championship quality courses hasn’t stopped his relationship with the PGA and the Tour from deteriorating. In 2015, the PGA of America canceled an event at Trump’s Los Angeles course in response to derogatory remarks he made about Mexican immigrants when announcing his presidential candidacy. A year later, the PGA Tour moved the World Golf Championship away from Doral. And in January 2021, days after the insurrection at the Capitol, the PGA announced it was cutting ties with Trump and moving the PGA Championship from Bedminster. At the time, PGA of America CEO Seth Waugh called it a “political situation not of our making,” to which Trump was reportedly “gutted.” The two parties would eventually settle the dispute, though Trump was still left exiled from the highest tiers of professional golf. The PGA of America didn’t reply to a request for comment.

Trump is “opportunistic and he’s always been opportunistic,” Woolson says. “That’s one of his great character traits.”
