Valerii Zaluzhnyi accuses the US of destroying the world order

Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom and former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi said that the United States «is destroying the world order».

He expressed this opinion during a speech at the Royal Institute of International Affairs Chatham House in London, The Times reports.

He believes that the White House has called into question the unity of the entire Western world.

«It is not just an axis of evil that is trying to revise the world order... The US is destroying the world order. It is obvious that the White House has called into question the unity of the entire Western world. And now Washington is trying to delegate security issues to Europe without the participation of the United States», Valerii Zaluzhnyi said .

Earlier, Valerii Zaluzhnyi did not answer directly whether he would run for the presidency of Ukraine, but he said he would think about it.

  • In February 2024, Valerii Zaluzhnyi was dismissed from the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the commander-in-chief, thanked him for two years of defending Ukraine and offered «to continue to be together in the team of the Ukrainian state».
  • Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi was appointed as the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Later, Valerii Zaluzhnyi was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Quote cited by The Times:
"It is not just the axis of evil trying to revise the world order … The US is destroying the world order. It is obvious the White House has questioned the unity of the whole western world. And now Washington is trying to delegate the security issues to Europe without the participation of the US."

Details: The Times notes that Zaluzhnyi also warned that NATO could cease to exist and Russia would come for Europe next.

Updated: Zaluzhnyi contacted Ukrainska Pravda after the publication of the news and provided the exact quote from his speech.

Quote from Zaluzhnyi:
"It is obvious that Washington's failure to recognize Russia’s aggression is a new challenge not only for Ukraine but for Europe as well. Therefore, this is enough to understand that it is no longer just Russia and the axis of evil trying to destroy the world order, but the United States are effectively finalizing its destruction."

Background:

  • On 28 February, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance had a row over the war in Ukraine at the White House in raised voices in front of the TV cameras. Prior to this, Trump had said at the meeting with Zelenskyy that he was "for both Ukraine and Russia".
  • Trump later said that Zelenskyy had been disrespectful to the US and was not ready for peace.
  • On 4 March, it was reported that US President Donald Trump had ordered the suspension of all military aid to Ukraine, intensifying pressure on Zelenskyy following the spat at the White House.
  • In addition, the United States has halted all intelligence sharing with Ukraine, particularly data on military targets and warnings about Russian missile and drone launches on Ukrainian territory.
  • Trump's national security adviser, Mike Waltz, later said preparations were underway for a new round of talks between the US and Ukraine.

US Destroys World Order – Zaluzhny: Existing NATO Dissolution and Russia Attack on Europe
White House has challenged unity of the entire Western world, Ukrainian ambassador to Britain has argued
The US is "destroying the World Order," argued Valery Zaluzhny, a former commander of the Ukrainian armed forces and current Ukrainian ambassador to the UK.
In a speech to Chatham House, Zaluzhny, whose name is among the potential successors of Zelensky, argued that NATO could cease to exist and Russia could attack Europe.
  1. “This is not just an axis of evil trying to redefine the world order.
  2. The United States is destroying the world order.
  3.  It is clear that the White House has questioned the unity of the entire Western world.
  4.  And now Washington is trying to outsource security issues to Europe without U.S. involvement," Zaluzhny said.

The United States is “destroying” the international rules-based order by trying to meet Russia “halfway”, Ukraine’s ambassador to the UK has warned.
Valerii Zaluzhnyi told a conference at the Chatham House think tank that recent steps by Washington towards Moscow were “a huge challenge”, warning NATO could collapse and Europe could become Russian President Vladimir Putin’s next target.
He said:
“We see that it is not just the axis of evil and Russia trying to revise the world order, but the US is finally destroying this order.”
  • Mr Zaluzhnyi, who took over as Kyiv’s ambassador to London in 2024 following three years as commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian armed forces, also warned that the White House had “questioned the unity of the whole Western world” and suggested NATO could cease to exist as a result.
  • His comments come as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attempts to repair relations with US President Donald Trump following a dramatic row between the two men in the Oval Office last week.
On Tuesday, Mr Trump signaled that tensions could be easing, telling Congress he had received a letter from Mr Zelensky saying he was ready to sign a peace deal “at any time”.
But on the same day, the US president ordered a sudden freeze on shipments of US military aid to Ukraine and Washington has since paused intelligence sharing with Kyiv and halted cyber operations against Russia.
Mr Zaluzhnyi said the pause in cyber operations and an earlier decision by the US to oppose a UN resolution condemning Russian aggression in Ukraine were “a huge challenge for the entire world”.
He added that talks between the US and Russia – “headed by a war criminal” – showed the White House “makes steps towards the Kremlin, trying to meet them halfway”, warning Moscow’s next target “could be Europe”.
