Alert: Ozone High Pollution Advisory in effect for Monday

Forecast Discussion:

High pressure is continuing to strengthen over the southwest region today leading to drier air conditions and temperatures near 110 degrees. Thunderstorm chances are not looking too great for the majority of the workweek. We could start to see moisture move into the region from a trough currently located off the west coast as it begins to move toward the states. This moisture will not come into play until the very end of the week/over the weekend. We'll keep an eye on storm potential as we progress through the week.

The dominating high pressure will also lead to clear skies and light winds. Two key ingredients to elevated ozone levels. As a result, an Ozone High Pollution Advisory is in effect for today, and tomorrow. Similarly, an Ozone High Pollution Watch is in place for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. We'll keep a close eye on weather patterns and monitor ozone values to see if these watches need to be upgraded to advisories.

As for particulates, PM₁₀ (dust) is slowly returning to normal weekday trends with elevated morning levels due to industrial activity and stagnation. With no rain in the Phoenix Valley since Saturday, the grounds have had time to soak up all the recent moisture and return to dry surface conditions. We will likely see particulates increase as we progress throughout the week due to the minimal to no chance of rainfall over the next few days.
