Arizona's Independent Redistricting Commission (IRC) invites residents to participate in its first round of statewide public hearings beginning July 23 and continuing through August 9, 2021.
Information will be presented both in person and virtually about the redrawing of Arizona’s congressional and legislative districts. Public comment received during these meetings will be used by the IRC to help inform the drawing of new district boundaries. Commission Chair Erika Neuberg urges all Arizonans to attend one of these important hearings to ensure their voices will be heard

The Independent Redistricting Commission's mission is to redraw Arizona’s congressional and legislative districts to reflect the results of the most recent census. The concept of one-person, one-vote dictates that districts should be roughly equal in population. Other factors to be considered are the federal Voting Rights Act, district shape,geographical features, respect for communities of interest and potential competitiveness. The state Constitution requires the commissioners – two Republicans, two Democrats and an independent chairperson – to start from scratch rather than redraw existing districts.
A new Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission was appointed in January 2021 to adopt new congressional and legislative districts for Arizona. This comprehensive website is being used to inform the public about its work.
The Commission is providing this notice regarding the physical and electronic locations where all public notices regarding public meetings are posted. The Commission posts all public notices and agendas, on the Arizona Public Meetings website at https://publicmeetings.az.

The IRC created the survey for people to fill out in preparation for its upcoming listening tour, which will see the commission hold 15 meetings across the state over 17 days to receive public input before it begins drawing new districts.

This application highlights several different demographic variables throughout the state of Arizona. The data shown is provided by National Demographics Corporation (NDC).
To help guide the user through the app, instructions on how to navigate the app and use the widgets are described below.
What is a widget? Widgets are the tools of the application represented by displayed throughout the app. They each have a specific purpose and allow for the user to view what they want how they want in the app.
Search Bar: This will be a very valuable tool as it allows for the user to search their area of interest, Address, Town/City, and more. When they click the search button or enter button after they have typed their address it will immediately zoom to the extent of the place they searched.
Zoom Features: The Plus and Minus symbols in the upper left hand corner allow for the user to zoom in and out to different extents. They will have the same ability by scrolling in and out with their mouse's.
Home Button: by clicking this button in the upper left hand corner of the app it will take the user back to the extent of the the state of Arizona.
My Location: by clicking this button in the upper left hand corner of the app it will zoom to the map where your device is located.
Basemap: This widget in the bottom right corner of the app allows for the user to change the background of the map. From satellite view to street maps and more, the user can enhance their experience with a variety of different backgrounds.
Legend: Shows the detail of the different symbolism for each layer. This guides the user in knowing exactly what they are looking at. Each layer in this app is symbolized on percentages. The different colors range from 0% - 100% split into 6 classes as show below. The only layer that has different classes is the Native American CVAP (0%-17%+).
Bookmarks: This widget contains saved map views for the user to navigate to their specific county. The layers in the app are pre set to only draw at the city level. All of the bookmarks provided are at the extent needed for the variable layers to draw.
Variable List: This widget contains the different variable groups. The demographic layers are split up by 6 different groups.
- Directing Variables: This group contains the Counties layer. This layer will be visible at the state level and will be seen at the default extent. More can be added such as towns, streets, neighborhoods, etc that will help the user search for their area of interest.
- Population: This group contains the Citizen Voting Age Populations (CVAP). The layers with in this group are Latino CVAP, Asian-American CVAP, African-American CVAP, Native American CVAP, and Non Hispanic White CVAP.
- Children and language at Home: This group contains the the layers Speak Spanish at Home, Other language at Home, and Children at Home.
- Housing: This group contains the layers Renter-Occupied Housing, and Multi-Family Housing.
- Income: This group contains the layer Income of $75k and Above.
- Education: This group contains the layer Bachelors Degree and higher
