"It looks like Putin has commissioned the opening of a second energy front": Zelenskyy about Fico's threats
President Vladimir Zelensky responded to statements by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who threatened Ukraine with a "response" to suspending the transportation of Russian gas.
About this president wrote on its page in the social network X (Twitter).
"Putin seems to have instructed Fico to open a second energy front against Ukraine at the expense of the Slovak people. Only this could mean threats to Fico to block Ukraine's extraordinary supply of electricity in winter in the face of Russian strikes on our power plants and distribution network, – wrote Zelensky.
The President noted that the only reason for Ukraine's need to import electricity is the occupation of the Zaporizhia NPP by Russia and the constant massive blows to energy.
The president said Fico was trying to drag Slovakia into "Russia's efforts to hurt Ukrainians."
Zelensky also added that due to Fico's threats, Slovakia could lose up to $ 200 million a year paid by Ukraine for electricity exports.
"Slovakia's share in electricity imports to Ukraine is about 19%. The Government of Ukraine is working with our neighbors in the EU to maintain the required electricity supply. Slovakia is part of a single European energy market, and Fico must respect European rules
Any arbitrary decisions in Bratislava or orders from Moscow for Fico regarding electricity will not stop the import of electricity to Ukraine, but can certainly lead to the rupture of the current Slovak government with the European community, – the president added.
