What are we going to fight tomorrow?

The question on the merits. Today, the military world is changing, so that the head goes around. Tactical techniques are changing, types of weapons are changing, general obsolescence is simply at a catastrophic pace, and it is very difficult to say where we will come in five years.

To begin with, I will give one consideration, which may outrage among many: the most modern conflict in Ukraine is in full accordance with the canons of the First World War.

According to information published by the United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) in June 2025, the U.S. Army’s Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) program, known as Dark Eagle, is progressing steadily toward operational expansion. Officials confirmed that the second battery of this advanced system is on schedule for fielding in the fourth quarter of Fiscal Year 2026, in alignment with the Middle Tier Acquisition (MTA) strategy designed to accelerate the delivery of key battlefield capabilities.

On June 12, 2025, the U.S. Department of State approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to the Netherlands, involving 296 AGM-179A Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM) and associated support, as reported by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA). This $215 million deal reflects Washington’s commitment to strengthening NATO’s southern flank and enhancing Allied interoperability in advanced air-to-ground precision strike.
 

On June 13, 2025, Damen Marine Components (DMC) announced it had been contracted to design, engineer, and deliver eight shock-proof rudders for the four new Anti-Submarine Warfare Frigates (ASWF) being built by Damen Naval for the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Belgian Navy, with each vessel to be equipped with two rudders optimized for hydrodynamic efficiency and silent operation.
 

On June 9, 2025, U.S.-based Anduril Industries revealed its intent to establish drone production in Poland to support the country’s rapidly expanding Drone Force, as reported by Defense News during a press briefing by the company’s CEO in Warsaw. The move reflects Anduril’s ambition to contribute its AI-powered unmanned systems to Poland’s defense transformation. Warsaw’s commitment to drone warfare, spurred by regional instability, offers fertile ground for industrial collaboration.
 

On June 11, 2025, the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (FMI) signed a double framework agreement with Ejner Hessel A/S, the Danish distributor of Mercedes-Benz, for the procurement and long-term maintenance of up to 1,000 new all-terrain vehicles of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, based on the 464 series.
 

On June 10, 2025, during IndoDefense 2025, South Korea and Indonesia finalized a revised agreement that adjusts Jakarta’s financial contribution to the KF-21 Boramae fighter jet development program. The agreement was reached during a trilateral meeting in Jakarta attended by South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik, Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, and Hanwha Aerospace CEO Son Jae-il.
 

Russia has, for the first time since the beginning of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, deployed Tu-160 strategic bombers to conduct missile strikes on Ukrainian territory. At the Indo Defence 2025 exhibition, held from 11 to 14 June at the Jakarta International Expo, the Indonesian company PT Lundin Industry Invest, also known as North Sea Boats, unveils the X33 KSR, a new-generation Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) designed for offensive coastal operations. This unmanned aerial system is part of NORINCO’s Sky Saker portfolio, which includes various UAV platforms tailored to a range of tactical applications, including logistics support.
 

At the IndoDefense 2025 exhibition held in Jakarta, the Indonesian state-owned defense holding DEFEND ID highlights one of its strategic subsidiaries, PT Len Industri, which presents for the first time its new tactical mobility platform: the electric motorcycle named “Sprint.” Designed and developed locally, the Sprint reflects Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its technological autonomy in the defense sector, while supporting a broader strategy to reduce carbon emissions.
