Europe's Reality Check & Power Problem | Kallas At Doha Forum

Kaja Kallas has addressed the new US National Security Strategy document while she was participating at the Doha Forum. She has stressed the importance of the transatlantic cooperation and said that the US still views Europe as a friend and ally.
She has also urged the European countries and the EU to be more “self-confident”.

The Telegraph has published an article about Kaja Kallas which questions her views.

Kaja Kallas’s hardline position isn’t helping Ukraine

Background:

  • On Thursday 4 December, the White House published a new US National Security Strategy, a key document outlining the foreign policy and security priorities of the United States.
  • The document stresses that policy towards Europe should focus on restoring strategic stability in relations with Russia, giving Europe greater responsibility for its own defence and preventing further NATO enlargement.
  • EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said that although the critical remarks from the US administration may have some basis, Europe must approach its own strength more confidently, particularly in its relations with Russia.
The article is asking if Kaja Kallas and the broader leadership of the EU is actually helping Ukraine’s position, given the fact that Russia seems to get stronger and stronger while Europe’s resources are drying out
