
City of Mesa Announces New Transportation Director
December 4, 2025 at 10:52 am The City of Mesa announces Erik Guderian as the
new Director of the Transportation Department. Guderian has supported
the Transportation Department as Interim Department Director since March
2025, following the passing of former Department Director RJ Zeder, and
Guderian officially transitioned to the permanent role on Dec. 2, 2025.
"Erik brings the foundational expertise and institutional knowledge
needed to lead the Transportation Department to the next level. I am
confident in his leadership, and we are fortunate to have someone who
has earned the trust of both staff and community stakeholders. His
appointment ensures a seamless and positive transition for the
department,"
--- said Mesa City Manager Scott Butler.
With over 20 years of transportation engineering and planning experience, Guderian has focused on building and maintaining transportation infrastructure that enables residents to reach their destinations safely on a daily basis.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to
serve the residents of the City of Mesa and to work alongside our
outstanding Transportation Department team," said Guderian.
"Together,
we will continue to maintain and grow our transportation network that
allows everyone to move safely and efficiently to the places that matter
most to them within our City."
- Erik has worked for the City of Mesa's Transportation Department since 2015, most recently as the Assistant Transportation Director.
- Prior to his work with the City of Mesa, Erik worked for the Town of Gilbert, AZ
- and as a transportation consultant in Denver, CO.
