CLOSING THE GAP
“The defining issue of our time.”
 -Nouriel Roubini
Closing The Gap will bring together leading thinkers and thinking leaders to explore strategies to re-start the American Dream.
That dream has been disrupted. Our economy is being reshaped by the exponential growth of technology and the global equalization of wages, and upward economic mobility is rapidly becoming a thing of the past.
The growing income gap in our economy is challenging enough for the average hard-working American. But the rapid automation of many human tasks is already overwhelming our ability to adapt, and robots and software could continue to affect an increasing percentage of our workforce.
This lack of opportunity is the most critical challenge that our economy is facing today. We need to gain an understanding about what is happening in our economy, and come up with big ideas to help re-start the American Dream
About two weeks ago Niall Ferguson addressed the Milken  Institute Global Economic Conference in Los Angeles
Where the World Connects: Milken Institute Global Conference Combines the Power of Convening and the Power of Ideas
For the 19th year, the Milken Institute Global Conference brought together leaders who drive change. From May 1 through May 4, more than 3,500 people from 55 countries and 45 states gathered for discussion across 11 content tracks, with the overarching theme exploring “The Future of Humankind.”
“Our Global Conference builds relationships that turn powerful ideas into transformative action, especially in our core areas of access to capital, improving health care and spurring job creation,” says Institute President and CEO Mike Klowden. “Our ability to bridge the worlds of business, finance, health, education and policy has never been more in demand.”

Sheriff Joe Arpaio in contempt of federal court, judge rules
AZCentral.com - 13 hours ago Republic reporter Megan Cassidy talks about Sheriff Joe Arpaio in contempt in federal court.

Contempt of court, often referred to simply as "contempt", is the offense of being disobedient to or disrespectful towards a court of law and its officers in the form of behavior that opposes or defies authority, justice, and dignity of the court.

Contempt takes two forms:
criminal contempt and civil contempt.

Judge Holds Contempt Of Court Hearing For Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio
PHOENIX (AP) — The sheriff for metro Phoenix begins a four-day hearing Tuesday that could bring him fines, damage his credibility and make him politically vulnerable for his acknowledged violations of a judge's orders in a racial profiling case.
Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has acknowledged disobeying the judge's pretrial order that barred his immigration enforcement patrols. He also has accepted responsibility for his agency's failure to turn over traffic-stop videos in the profiling case and bungling a plan to gather such recordings from officers once some videos were discovered.
The hearing marks the boldest attempt to hold the normally defiant sheriff personally responsible for his actions.

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich is "Pissed-Off' at AZ Secretary of State Michele Reagan

Arizona AG won't halt Tuesday's special election despite foul-up
By Howard Fischer Capitol Media | Updated
PHOENIX — Attorney General Mark Brnovich refused today to try to cancel next week's special elections despite foul-ups by Secretary of State Michele Reagan, saying there's nothing in state law to permit that.
At a hastily called press conference, Brnovich unloaded on Reagan for failing to comply with state laws requiring voters to get ballot pamphlets explaining the two issues before they got their actual early ballots. And he said there needs to be an investigation of why Reagan hid that information from the public for so long.
"This was a complete fiasco,'' Brnovich said.

Attorney Tom Ryan is well known for wading into the political arena. He recently led the effort to oust the chairman of the Arizona Corporation Commission over conflict of interest

"An Arizona attorney who tried unsuccessfully to stop next week’s special election is now calling for the impeachment of Secretary of State Michele Reagan.
On Friday, Tom Ryan blasted Reagan for a glitch that prevented hundreds of thousands of voters from receiving their ballot guides far enough in advance of the election. The attorney and activist has asked Attorney General Mark Brnovich to delay the May 17 election because about 200,000 households with voters on the permanent early voting list did not receive their publicity pamphlets the required ten days before voting.
Brnovich will not intervene this close to the election, saying the statute does not actually provide a "remedy" for this situation. However, Brnovich called the error a "fiasco" and is investigating what happened and why Reagan did not alert the public last month when the issue was first discovered.
Meanwhile, Tom Ryan said the elections director should resign and the legislature should move to impeach Reagan.
“It’s about whether or not the secretary of state has the right to put her thumb on the scale and defeat the citizen’s right to get the message out that opposed or supports a particular bill she’s out campaigning on,” said Ryan. . . "

Cubic's GATR Technologies Receives Order to Support the US Army's T2C2 Program

Cubic’s GATR Technologies Receives Order to Support the US Army’s Transportable Tactical Command Communications (T2C2) Program
05/12/2016
GATR Technologies also delivers first satellite terminals as part of the T2C2 Program
Cubic Global Defense is regarded the world over primarily as a provider of training systems and solutions. In recent months, the company has grown its portfolio through the acquisition of three well-known companies (DTech Labs, GATR Technologies and TeraLogics), which positions Cubic as an important player in the world of mission support and C4ISR, including portable, networked systems for deployed and special forces.
SAN DIEGO – May 12, 2016Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB) today announced that its subsidiary GATR Technologies (GATR), which operates within the Cubic Global Defense (CGD) business unit, was awarded an engineering services order valued in excess of $5 million to support the U.S. Army’s Transportable Tactical Command Communications (T2C2) program, under its Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR), Phase III Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract.
The services award will enable GATR to integrate and test the T2C2 inflatable satellite antenna terminals with software systems in preparation for Product Verification Testing, Logistics Demonstration and Operational Test.
In addition to the services award, GATR delivered the initial ten inflatable satellite antenna terminals to the Project Manager Warfighter Information Network–Tactical (PM WIN-T) in support of the T2C2 program for more than $3.2 million. This first order for five small- and five medium-sized terminals is part of the Army’s Program of Record for next-generation, early-entry communications and will be utilized for testing. If the government exercises all full rate production purchase orders, the T2C2 effort could bring more than 780 GATR terminals to the field.
“GATR Technologies has worked closely with the U.S. Army to develop a successful satellite communications program with its unique and portable, inflatable satellite terminals,” said Mike Twyman, executive vice president of communications, intelligence and surveillance systems, Cubic Global Defense. “This award demonstrates the Army’s commitment to innovative C4ISR technologies that support and expand the warfighter’s capabilities in remote locations.”
The T2C2 program provides agile voice and data communications in the early phases of joint operations, and in later operational phases it provides communications at the tactical edge.

SOFEX 2016
From training to tactical [SOFEX16D3]
12 May 2016
"Here at SOFEX, Cubic’s C4ISR capabilities are being promoted for the first time in the region.
TeraLogics is demonstrating its real-time full-motion video (FMV) management system and Unified Video software, which pairs real-time FMV with geospatial imagery and other data to generate an actionable intelligence product.
On-the-move internet and rapid networking are an increasingly important part of deployed operations, and Cubic is displaying two complementary systems at SOFEX (Hall 1, Stand B120). DTech Labs has developed a range of rugged and man-portable communications power sources, switches and router/network gateways. The boxed systems are modular, and can be stacked into a single unit that allows connection into any communications network.
Cubic’s acquisition of GATR Technologies brings with it the GATR family of inflatable satellite communications terminals. This technology was originally developed as an answer to negate the effects of traditional antennas receiving small-arms fire, and to allow rapid deployment.
GATR offers inflatable antenna balls ranging in diameter from less than 1m to more than 4m, and in varying frequency bands, such as X-, C-, Ku- and Ka-bands.
All are man-portable and can be transported in packs or rugged boxes. They can be carried by paratroops, and are very popular with Special Forces. Set-up can be accomplished in 10 to 15 minutes.
Not only is the outer protective shell inflatable, but so is the internal antenna. The system employs an automatic pressure regulator that continues to preserve the antenna and shell’s rigidity even in the event of puncturing. Tests have shown that the inflatable ball can retain its shape even after being shot numerous times."
