Comites del Barrio Press Release Contact: Salvador Reza 602 446-9928 (English) Mesa City Council and Chase Bank Complicit in Private Prison Scheme > Divestment Action Planned Date: Friday June 2, 2017 Time: 4:00 pm Location: Chase Bank Bullding (61 N. Country Club Dr. Mesa AZ) (1st Street and Country Club Drive,Mesa AZ) Re: The City of Mesa ethnic cleansing scheme took one more step at the last Mesa City Council Meeting. Not content with clearing the Light Rail Corridor of Mesa Royale Trailer Park residents, they have teamed up with Chase Bank and CoreCivic (a private prison enterprise) to fulfill Donald Trump’s dream of deportation. The movement to Divest from Chase will continue and the Barrio Defense Committee members will begin with this action to withdraw their money and close their checking and savings accounts until Chase Bank stops financing the private prison complex, stops financing the pipeline at Standing Rock, and the City of Mesa breaks the contract with CoreCivic Private Prison Complex. The recent 5 million dollar contract with CoreCivic completes the circle of the private prison complex, where Mesa arrestees will be sent to Florence, the same facility that is operated by CoreCivic as an Immigration Detention Center. Now that Sheriff Joe Arpaio is no longer Sheriff, it will bypass the MCSO 4th Avenue Jail process bringing even more profits to CoreCivic and Chase Bank. We will also ask the affected community and its supporters to withdraw their money from Chase Bank. Visuals will be present during protest outside Bank

Mesa recently held a groundbreaking to celebrate a new project downtown. It’s designed to provide housing to struggling artists and space for the growing arts community.
One-Bedroom Housing in this buidling
The Mesa Artspace Lofts will offer up to 50 apartments for individuals and families that make significantly less than the median household income. Michael Trailor, who oversees Arizona’s Department of Housing, says the state is short about 220,000 affordable units. “These affordable housing projects are absolutely critical to the fabric of our community and serving the needs of our lower-income people who are struggling to survive,” he said.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Trailor said the project will have on-site services like computer and job training, a food bank, and financial literacy classes. He's seen in the image to the left here being interviewed by a camera crew from city-owned Mesa Channel 11 on May 24. Mesa donated the land at 155 S Hilbert Street at the NEC of Second Avenue , which is two blocks south of the Valley Metro light rail line @ Mesa Drive.
The Minneapolis-based nonprofit Artspace also received tax credits and funding from various foundations and trusts. For more information see a featured post on this blog site https://mesazona.blogspot.com/2017/05/new-digs-on-empty-lots-regenerating-new.html When the Artspace Lofts open in 2018, it will feature studios, one- two- and three-bedroom units, along with space for exhibitions and community events. Architectural Resource Team is doing the design work for this $15.8 million project on a urban in-fill lot that's been vacant, two blocks away from the Mesa Center.
The firm also did previous work here in Mesa at LaMesita Phases 1, 2 and 3.
As Donald Trump just left the Paris Accord, major updates to internet legislation could come to the UK, changes to privacy and data recording. Theresa May said these potential modification are for the safety of UK citizens, but many fear they will not benefit from any kind of internet privacy, leaving them open to attacks. Also, in the light of recent news regarding malware, the government still insists that service providers leave backdoors for authorities to use in data mining and surveillance. Your MesaZona blogger picked up a free hardcopy of the East Valley Tribune yesterday on Main Street here in The New Urban Downtown Mesa -Great to see veteran reporter Gary Nelson, now a contributing writer, get back in-the-groove with all his years-long history publishing articles about what's going on here in Mesa and the East Valley - he knows the people and the region better than the new crop of reporters who sometimes get their news 'spoon-fed'. TOP STORY Bribe scandal dominates E. Valley, Three accused by grand jury have deep roots in region By Gary Nelson EVT Sun 04 June 2017
The report starts off life this, apparently referencing Justice Delayed is Justice Denied - or mebbe not with this allegation about conduct five or six years ago when so much is going on right now with undisclosed details getting done by the Mesa City Council that involve mega-millions of dollars [See > Mesa City Council Study Session 01 June 2017]
"After years of shadowy suggestions that something might be rotten at the Arizona Corporation Commission, the first indictment boils down to something most people can understand: A bald-faced case of quid pro quo bribery.
The indictment, of course, is only a list of charges that must be proven in court by federal prosecutors. But it describes in detail a pattern of alleged criminal conduct in 2011 and 2012 involving prominent East Valley political and business figures – and is the latest allegation of wrongdoing by a troubled real estate developer and state regulatory officials.

THIS COULD BE A WHIRLWIND AND TORNADO that hits the generations-old political-private interests promoting the fast sprawl here in the East Valley
Gary Nelson's article throw some light on how this all works here in the East Valley, where politicians elected to public office have undisclosed business and/family interests [i.e. 'making money'] and undisclosed associations with real estate developers, public relations firms and lobbyists: for example Gary Pierce's wife Sherry [who owns a lobbying firm] is atthe same time the $58,000-a-year deputy assistant to for U.S. Congressman Andy Biggs - she held the same job with Matt Salmon when he was in Congress [Salmon and his wife Nancy operate a publish relations firm] ....
