Affordable Housing Help

Affordable Housing

Maricopa County is working to address growing challenges in housing affordability with public, private, and nonprofit partners across the region.  Recently, the County partnered with the City of Tempe and Newtown to create “Tempe MicroEstates,” a collection of small, affordable homes whose prices are based on the income of the buyer and other factors.  This project was funded through a federal HUD grant.  The Board of Supervisors has also approved $30 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to support additional affordable housing efforts.

ADEQ WATER QUALITY DIVISION: EPA seeking to interview water systems for utility supply chain case study

Water Quality Division

EPA Seeking to Interview Water Systems for Supply Chain Case Study

Does your public water system serve 10,000 to 100,000 people? Have you experienced supply chain challenges?

If so, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) may want to include you in a case study on supply chain challenges for utility companies.

How does it work?

EPA is interviewing medium-sized water systems about their experiences with supply chain challenges (e.g., treatment chemicals or other critical supplies) and best practices for adapting to them. Participants will inform a case study, potentially with accompanying video, in an effort to support water sector preparedness for supply chain disruptions.

Step 1: If interested in participating, contact Gabby Minton at Minton.Gabrielle@epa.gov.

Step 2: If your system is identified as a case study participant, EPA will first schedule and hold a 30-minute project overview call (assessment questions will be shared at this time).

Step 3: One-hour call for the case study assessment and discussion.

Step 4: When the case study is drafted, EPA asks participating utilities to review content to ensure your discussion is properly reflected.

USA FACTS: The 2022 State of the Union in Numbers is here

The 2022 State of the Union in Numbers

The annual State of the Union address is scheduled for March 1. But what do the numbers say? USAFacts' third annual State of the Union in Numbers is back to help you assess the country’s progress with data instead of rhetoric.

As a subscriber, you’re getting some of the earliest access to this new report, plus visuals that are just for newsletter readers.

Here’s just a preview of what’s available:

  • Federal spending is up 46% since 2019.

  • Spending for Medicare, Social Security, defense and veterans, debt interest, plus assistance like stimulus checks and unemployment insurance accounted for 80.5% of federal expenditures.
  • The federal government collected $12,294 per person in fiscal year 2021 for a total of $4.1 trillion. Ninety-two percent of revenue was from individual income, payroll, and corporate income taxes.

  • Revenue was equivalent to 17.3% of GDP, in line with the 18% annual average since 1980.

Use the State of the Union in Numbers to get the nonpartisan facts behind questions like, how is the country’s population changing? Who is immigrating to the USAre students succeeding or backsliding? This report is a handy, data-centric tool not just for the speech and the rebuttal, but for informing your conversations year-round.

What else is new at USAFacts?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics updated its 2021 data to reveal a job market seemingly unaffected by coronavirus variants. Plus, to close out Black History Month, see where the nation’s Black population has moved and changed between the 2010 and the 2020 censuses.

One last fact

There were nine active strikes of at least 1,000 workers in 2021. Eight were new, while one by Charter Communications workers in New Jersey and New York began in 2017 and is ongoing.
