Well, it's still around, albeit in amended form after whistleblower Edward Snowden showed the world just how much the NSA surveilled Americans. On Wednesday, the US Senate had the chance to strike down some more of the surveillance measures in the laws. It did not.
A bipartisan amendment to forbid the government from secretly collecting information about Americans' internet habits failed by just one vote.
