THE ELDEST CHILD:

Mr Trump Jr's jovial persona on Wednesday was notably different to the hyper-masculine right-wing influencer he usually portrays.
In an appearance on the conservative Newsmax network earlier this week, he called the trial a "sham" and and labelled the chamber a "kangaroo court".

Trump Jr distances himself from documents at center of fraud trial: ‘I don’t recall’

Donald Trump’s eldest son testifies in New York civil trial, claiming repeatedly: ‘I don’t recall’

Donald Trump Jr took the stand in the ongoing fraud trial against his father and the family business on Wednesday and tried to distance himself from the financial statements at the center of the case.

Trump’s eldest son, 45, is the first family member to testify in the civil trial brought by the New York attorney general, Letitia James. His younger brother Eric is expected to testify on Thursday, with Trump and his daughter Ivanka expected in court next week.

In court, Trump Jr was polite and courteous after his testimony was delayed as Trump’s lawyers quizzed earlier witnesses.

“I should have worn makeup,” he joked as photographers took his picture ahead of his testimony.

Donald Trump Jr., the eldest son of President Donald Trump, made an unusual first courtroom appearance recently. The topic of discussion was a mispronunciation of a name and some chuckles in his ...

"I should have worn make-up," Donald Trump Jr quipped on Wednesday as a group of photographers rushed into court to take his picture.

As an executive at the Trump Organization, he was testifying in a multimillion-dollar civil trial that could see his family lose a sizable part of its business empire.

His comment set the tone for what was an hour-long charm offensive that saw Mr Trump Jr lightheartedly engaging with the judge while letting his lawyers do the brawling for him.

In under two hours of testimony in New York, he said he did not work on the financial statements at the centre of the case.

The eldest son of the former president appeared confident and relaxed on the witness stand. He smiled during proceedings, even making the occasional joke and drawing laughter from the courtroom.

The stakes, however, were high and the claims against him serious.

The judge has already found the Trump Organization falsified business records. This hearing will resolve other claims and potential penalties, which, in a worst-case scenario for the family, could see Mr Trump Jr, along with his father and brother Eric, essentially lose the ability to do business in New York

But Mr Trump Jr did not appear perturbed. Wearing a dark blue suit and flamingo-pink tie, the current Florida resident quipped to the judge that he had "kept the New York pace" after being asked to speak more slowly.

At another point, Judge Arthur Engoron noted humorously that Mr Trump Jr could settle a minor pronunciation argument: whether to pronounce "revocable" as "re-VOCK-able" or "re-VOKE-able".

Mr Trump Jr laughed and said he did not know.

When Colleen Faherty of the attorney general's office then phrased her question with one pronunciation, Mr Trump Jr joked that he only understood the other.

On another occasion, Ms Faherty pressed the 45-year-old on his understanding of the guidelines businesses use to ensure financial records are accurately maintained. He drew chuckles as he smiled and responded: "I have no understanding" - part of his broader argument that he was not involved in the minutiae of the company's accounting as prosecutors have claimed.

The attorney general's office argues he and his brother Eric were "intimately involved" in the Trump Organization, and said in court filings that they were "aware of the true financial performance of the company".. .

Jimmy Kimmel Brutally Mocks Donald Trump Jr.’s Intelligence

‘THE FRAUDIGAL SON’

Jimmy Kimmel says that what Donald Trump’s eldest child “lacks in intelligence, he also lacks in charisma.”

Donald Trump’s civil fraud trial in New York is about to get a lot more interesting, as a parade of Trumps—including the former president himself—are scheduled to make their way through a Manhattan courtroom to answer questions about alleged irregularities in financial statements filed by the Trump Organization.

Donald Trump Jr., the organization’s executive vice president, kicked off the legal festivities on Wednesday, where he essentially blamed everything on the family’s accountants.

“The fraudigal son was being grilled as part of the $250 million case against their business,” Jimmy Kimmel explained on Wednesday, before sharing a cringe-inducing clip of Don Jr. joking that he “should have worn makeup” while awkwardly waiting for the proceedings to begin.

“Here’s the thing about Don Jr.,” Kimmel noted. “What he lacks in intelligence, he also lacks in charisma.”

When Junior’s testimony concludes, his brother Eric Trump will take the stand. “And then Trump will claim he’s never met either one of them,” says Kimmel.

Kimmel isn’t the only late-night host discussing Don Jr.’s performance. On Late NightSeth Meyers explained the many reasons why the eldest Trump child could possibly make things worse for his dad—specifically if he chooses to be less than totally forthcoming with his answers, which could lead to him being treated as a hostile witness.

“It doesn’t help Don Jr. that he already comes off as a hostile witness,” said Meyers. “The man has no chill. I mean, just look at the way he stands. He’s got his chest puffed out like a guy at a bar saying the words ‘Step off.’ He looks like he just challenged a much bigger guy to a fight and now he’s waiting for his friends to hold him back.”

But if Meyers is right, the real trouble for Trump will come on Monday, when Ivanka Trump—whom Meyers described as “the only child Trump trusted to do actual business” on Tuesday—is scheduled to take the stand.
