World-Famous Nile Theater Gets A Facelift-of-Sorts

< This is it after the sidewalk safety barriers and scaffolding were removed yesterday from one of the sites of three in the first phase of the City of Mesa's Downtown Facade Improvement Project.
How does it grab you at first sight?
Is it in keeping with the original design from 1924 or just another bland re-do that might be an improvement if you are thinking that any improvement is better than nothing.
It's lost its character - obviously that's my opinion.
Here's how it fits in to a street level-view of the south side of Main Street, right next to one vacant-for-many-years  storefront [111 West Main Street, the original site of Zenos Co-Op] and next to that the boarded-up frontage of what-used-to-be a longtime downtown business Gunnell's Jewelry Store that closed suddenly, got sold, and got gutted - how nice is that for the "vibrant and exciting" downtown Mesa?
There's also a sidewalk sale in front of 111 W Main - crates of old albums and a DJ playing loud music for The Daily Vinyl.
It all rubs your MesaZona in all the wrong ways!
Or shall I try to be kind and simply say it's blah-blah-bland?
It was once "an exotic movie palace" and "a cinematic treasure" - even in this old black-and-white historic image the place had character as you can see for the formal opening.
The Nile Theater opened in 1924, it was the most lavish theater in Mesa. The theater presented silent films, vaudeville performers, and more...
Looks like the city's mission for 'historic preservation' is missing something very important: character.
What's the good news?
