Mesa Grande Cultural Park, 1000 N. Date, is celebrating its seasonal re-opening and highlighting the addition of new Native American objects from the Evelyn and Lou Grubb collection Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Admission available at the door
$6 per person
$2 for Members of the Arizona Museum of Natural History.

The Grubb Family Trust has honored the Arizona Museum of Natural History with the donation of 541 objects of the Evelyn and Lou Grubb Collection, including baskets from the Southwest, California and Northwest Coast, beadwork from the Plains & Plateau, pueblo ceramics and other magnificent objects. Louis Stephen Grubb
Lou was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a man of deep faith and commitment, a lifelong Catholic.
Lou, who came to Arizona in 1945 from his parents’ home in Long Island, founded Grubb Automotive in 1972, developing the company into a conglomerate of Chevrolet, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Buick, Mazda, Suzuki and Saturn dealerships.
He sold the company to AutoNation in 1997, remaining with the company as a legacy dealer.

“If you grew up in 1960s Phoenix, you can’t forget the soothing TV sales pitch of the real Lou Grubb. He was among the legends of local car dealer media celebs.”
> In a biography of Lou published in 1998, syndicated columnist Paul Harvey, who was a friend, wrote that Lou came to Arizona and “made the most of his newfound wellness, his innate competitive spirit and his Golden Rule business philosophy to build varied automotive enterprises across the Southwest.”

The state-of-the-art Lou Grubb Clubhouse at Papago Golf Course was honored as Clubhouse of the Year – 2nd Place Public Course, New Construction by Golf Inc. magazine, the world’s only magazine for golf course developers, owners and management company executives.
“This award is the result of a fantastic group effort to bring the City of Phoenix, and its many loyal golfers, something everyone can be proud of,” said Papago General Manager, Daryl Crawford.
“We are honored to be included among such a distinguished group of honorees by Golf Inc., and will proudly display this award in the clubhouse.” . .
A municipal golf course for the City of Phoenix, Papago’s revitalization project was done through a three-way, public-private partnership between

The clubhouse construction project included a private facility for the ASU golf teams, improvements to the public practice facilities and a new entrance to the golf course.
The layout of Lou’s Bar and Grill was designed to serve golfers and casual diners alike in a cool-clean, stone-and-steel atmosphere with open spaces that provide an inclusive, indoor-outdoor feel. The “al fresco” dining room and patio seating overlooking green lawns and golf course views provide a setting for small to medium-sized groups, and the adjacent enclosed event hall, Evie’s Pavilion, named after Lou’s wife Evelyn, can accommodate larger groups of up to 120 people.
