Phoenix-Mesa Metro Area Has Highest Rate of Extreme Poverty in Arizona

You won't hear Hizzoner Mesa Mayor John Giles - or any of the other six members of the Mesa City Council - saying that too loud anytime soon. That's not the story they want to be told. 
Everything is great! 
We're the fastest growing city in the country!

If we needed to be reminded of the fact that what's out there for Feel-Good Stories don't always match some inconvenient facts, Arizona Business Daily published a stark reminder yesterday. 
However, it is not a new study at all - it was first published back in July 2019 (see below)
Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale's Concentrated Poverty Rate 
Is The Highest in Arizona

The Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale metro area’s share of extreme poverty – neighborhoods where at least 40% of residents live below the poverty level – is the highest in Arizona, according to a new analysis from the website 24/7 Wall St. 
Among the metro area’s poor population, 17.5% live in neighborhoods where four out of 10 residents live in poverty, the analysis found. 
The overall poverty rate in the metro area is 15.7%. 

Extreme poverty affects 64 out of 976 neighborhoods in Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale, 24/7 Wall St. found. And the unemployment rate in these regions is 10.1 percent.
