This is a good time to watch-and-see and analyze what our elected government is doing - or wants to try and get away with Please read this first:

Out-of-Touch Public Officials: They Say They Believe In Citizen Participation But Have A Stranglehold On Public Policy

Here's are four official statement from The City of Mesa: https://www.mesaaz.gov/government/mayor-council

 

1. The Mesa City Council sets policies based on the input and needs of its citizens.

2. Mesa operates under a charter form of government with citizens electing a mayor and six councilmembers to set policy for the City.

3. The mayor and council are elected on a non-partisan basis.

4. The Mesa City Council believes that its people, not leaders, are what makes a City great and actively works to encourage citizen participation in the decision-making process.

OK. All those words sound nice for sure > the City also outlines the different ways for people and citizens to participate:

PLEASE NOTE: 

For the time being there are few if any NO neighborhood meetings and other ways to communicate public needs and public input are limited.

Tuesday's Study Session - almost two hours in running length - says a lot how Hizzoner John Giles and City Manager Chris Brady try to control these public meetings. Brady already has prepared four presentations and has a lot of presenters in-the-room.

The screenshot you see featured is a back-up person from ASU called upon to try to justify ONE MORE GUANTEED MAXIMUM PRICE INCREASE. I did not see an item on the published agenda for this presentation. Please check if you can find and access it . . .

Re: "MARIJUANA PROHIBITIONS"

That took up a lot of time - there's really NO REASON TO RUSH THIS THROUGH WITHOUT MORE INPUT FROM THE PUBLIC + A BALANCED COUNTER-MESSAGE FROM PROPONENTS OF DE-CRIMINALIZING CANNABIS ...the slide presentation is not the complete data.

ONE MORE NOTE: Happy to see some City Council members start to ask the right questions, but there's still a long way to go when they don't keep the pressure on after evasive responses.

WAY TOO MUCH "GROUP-THINK" e.g..District 2 Council member Jeremy Whittaker is the only one who is persistent and dedicated to stating uncomfortable facts
