SpaceX successfully deployed the Instelsat 40e communcations satellite from a Falcon 9 rocket upper stage on April 7, 2023.

The Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution instrument (TEMPO) "will measure pollution of North America, from Mexico City to the Canadian oil sands, and from the Atlantic to the Pacific hourly and at high spatial resolution," according to the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and NASA.

The tool is called TEMPO, short for Tropospheric Emissions Monitoring of Pollution instrument. It will keep a tab on three harmful pollutants: nitrogen dioxide, formaldehyde, and ground-level ozone. Together, they're key ingredients for smog.12 hours ago
