Akkuyu NPP has all components to be considered the safest in the world — Grossi

TASS

"The head of the IAEA also pointed to the plant’s original design, which he said combinied "artistic features" while maintaining a powerful energy potential

MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/. Turkey’s Akkuyu NPP has all components to be called the safest nuclear power plant in the world, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi said.

"Well, I think it has every element to be [the safest nuclear plant on the plant], the whole process has been following the international safety standards and security guidance of the IAEA. So we are pretty confident that once it is commissioned, as I understand, before the end of this year, it is going to be a plus," he told Izvestia, answering a question about whether Akkuyu NPP could be called the safest plant in the world.

Grossi also pointed to the plant’s original design, which he said combinied "artistic features" while maintaining a powerful energy potential.

The Akkuyu NPP is Turkey’s first nuclear power plant. The project is being implemented under the intergovernmental agreement signed by Russia and Turkey in 2010. The power plant includes four Russian-designed VVER generation 3+ reactors. Each reactor’s power output will be 1,200 MWt. Once commissioned and brought to full capacity, the NPP will produce about 35 billion kWh every year. The plant is designed to provide up to 10% of Turkey’s electricity needs.

To date, the project is fully financed by the Russian side. The Akkuyu NPP is the first project in the global nuclear industry implemented on the Build-Own-Operate model. The plant will be operated by a large number of local specialists who have undergone and continue to undergo practical and theoretical training in Russia."

West no longer hiding who is behind planning of Kiev's counteroffensive — Russian diplomat

TASS

"Maria Zakharova also stressed that representatives of Western countries, by openly demanding that the Russian side suffer the maximum possible losses, "once again are loudly confirming their direct involvement in the conflict"

MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/. The West is no longer hiding that it is really behind the planning for Ukraine’s much-vaunted counteroffensive, and will pull out all the stops to ensure its success, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a briefing on Thursday.

"The West openly states that it will do everything possible to make the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian armed forces, which is planned for the near future, a success. That is to say, as you can imagine, they do not even hide that they are behind all this military planning, not only tactical guidance, which we have repeatedly talked about, but also the ongoing disposition [of forces] according to their strategic plan," she said.

Zakharova also stressed that representatives of Western countries, by openly demanding that the Russian side suffer the maximum possible losses, "once again are loudly confirming their direct involvement in the conflict."

On Tuesday, the New York Times, citing classified Pentagon and US intelligence documents that surfaced on the Internet, reported that the Ukrainian armed forces planned to launch a counteroffensive in the south next month. According to the newspaper, by the end of April, Ukraine is expected to have prepared 12 combat brigades with a complement of 4,000 servicemen each."

Russian diplomat urges G7 countries to assess global damage they caused in past 25 years

"These countries created damage "on several continents," Maria Zakharova stressed

MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Members of the Group of Seven (G7) need to assess the damage they caused to the world in the past 24 hours, Russian Foreing Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told the Rossiya-1 TV channel.

When commenting on the G7’s statement that Russia would be responsible for any damage caused to Ukraine, Ukrainian nationals and international organizations, the diplomat pointed out that G7 countries should start with themselves. "It is high time the G7 assessed the damage that its members caused to the world in the past 20-25 years, and offset it with its own money rather than with someone else’s," Zakharova noted. These countries created damage "on several continents," she stressed.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation based on a request from the heads of the Donbass republics. The Russian leader stressed that Moscow had no plans to occupy Ukrainian territories and the goal was to demilitarize and denazify the country. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported later that the Russian Armed Forces were not delivering strikes against Ukrainian cities. The ministry emphasized that the Ukrainian military infrastructure was being destroyed by precision weapons and there was no threat to civilians."

TASS

"According to Jens Stoltenberg, NATO believes that providing as many weapons as possible to Kiev is the best way to facilitate peace in Ukraine because it will allow President Vladimir Zelensky’s regime to be in a strong negotiating position

BRUSSELS, April 27. /TASS/. More than 98% of the combat vehicles that NATO promised to Ukraine have already been delivered, the bloc’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Thursday.

"Overall, through the Contact Group led by the United States, NATO Allies and partners have provided unprecedented support to Ukraine. More than 98% of the combat vehicles promised to Ukraine have already been delivered. That means over 1,550 armored vehicles, 230 tanks and other equipment, including vast amounts of ammunition. In total we have trained and equipped more than nine new Ukrainian armored brigades," he pointed out at a meeting with Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel in Brussels.

According to Stoltenberg, NATO believes that providing as many weapons as possible to Kiev is the best way to facilitate peace in Ukraine because it will allow President Vladimir Zelensky’s regime to be in a strong negotiating position. However, the NATO chief warned against underestimating the Russian army, and claimed that Russia was sending thousands of troops to attack the city of Artyomovsk (called Bakhmut in Ukraine).

Bettel, in turn, noted that Luxembourg did not have weapons to send to Ukraine, which was why it was making a financial contribution, paying for what Kiev was asking for."
