Kalashnikov unveiled its latest AK-19 NATO caliber assault rifle

The esteemed defense manufacturer, Kalashnikov, has unveiled a compact adaptation of the AK-19 machine gun, designed with a 5.56×45 mm NATO cartridge. This novel weapon was showcased at the international forum, “Army-2023”

The latest addition to Kalashnikov’s arsenal, the AK-19 assault rifle, is a derivative of the AK-12, modified to accommodate the Western 5.56 mm caliber. According to the manufacturer, this weapon is primarily targeted at international customers whose military forces rely on the NATO 5.56×45 mm caliber. 
Exhibiting superior ergonomics, enhanced precision, and fire accuracy, the AK-19 assault rifle is Kalashnikov’s latest export model. It is designed for durability and consistent performance across round-the-clock operations. 

About AK-19

Boasting a weight of just 3 kg, the AK-19 features a versatile folding stock with adjustable length and a newly designed ergonomic grip. Its Picatinny rail, mounted atop the receiver, supports the installation of a wide range of sighting systems. Additional Picatinny rails are fitted on the weapon’s forearm, providing space for various attachments. 

In addition to its innovative features, the AK-19 is equipped with a new dioptric sight, and a quick-detach device for silent, flameless shooting. 

The 5.56 mm AK-19 assault rifle is a groundbreaking export model from Kalashnikov, designed for the globally recognized 5.56×45 mm NATO cartridge. The manufacturer describes this model as the pinnacle of AK system development. It significantly surpasses its predecessors in terms of ergonomics, round-the-clock adaptability, and precision and fire accuracy. 

The development of the AK-19 was preceded by an upgrade of the AK-12 assault rifle, which is currently in service with the Russian army. The AK-12 was refined based on operational experience and feedback from military personnel.

What do we know about the AK-12?

To understand more about the AK-19 we need to familiarize ourselves with the main features of the AK-12. The AK-12 is a modern assault rifle developed by the Russian company Kalashnikov Concern. It is the latest iteration of the AK series, which has been in service with the Russian military since the 1940s. The AK-12 was designed to meet the modern requirements of the Russian Armed Forces, and it features several improvements over its predecessors.

  • The AK-12 has several technical characteristics that make it a highly effective weapon. It has a range of up to 600 meters, and it is capable of firing both single shots and automatic fire. 
  • The rifle has a standard magazine capacity of 30 rounds, and it can be equipped with a variety of accessories, including scopes, grenade launchers, and suppressors.
  • The AK-12 has proven to be a highly capable weapon in combat situations. It is reliable, easy to use, and effective in both short and medium ranges. 
  • The rifle has been used by Russian forces in some conflicts, including the Syrian Civil War and the conflict in Ukraine.

  • The AK-12 is currently in service with the Russian military, and it is expected to replace the older AK-74M as the standard-issue rifle for Russian soldiers. 
  • The rifle has also been exported to several other countries, including Kazakhstan and Armenia. Overall, the AK-12 is a highly effective and versatile weapon that has proven its worth in a variety of combat situations.
