Burning Man Gates Close, Thousands Told to Shelter in Place Due to Heavy Rain & Muddy Conditions
Rain has turned the ground into thick, sticky mud, making it impossible for vehicles to move without getting stuck.
Burning Man officials have closed the event’s gates, making it impossible to enter and exit. All vehicles, other than emergency transport services, have been told to not move. The event’s airport is also currently closed.

- Burners have been advised to conserve food and water in the event that those inside the city will not be able to leave for several days. The ice tent is currently limiting people to buying one bag only.
- Approximately 20,000 people arrived to Black Rock City via the Burner Bus, which transports people from cities including San Francisco and Reno.
- The information authority notes that these busses will return on a first-come, first-served schedule when roads reopen.
- Inside the city, spirits are relatively high. Music is playing from many camps, with dance parties taking place under tents and in the mud itself. Many of the people out walking around the city are barefoot, with others covering their shoes in plastic bags or wearing just socks.

About 37 seconds later a ranger RAMMED through blockade, made arrest at gun point. Climate activists from XR and “7 Seven Circles” shut down highway leading to the Burning Man Festival, within the tribal lands. Attendees quickly became irate, confronting the group blockading the road and physically attempting to remove the blockade. Some attendees sped thru close by the chained activists. Rangers rushed in to the group, ramming through the blockade and rushing out with gun pointed to arrest protesters. Several arrests were made during the incident, including the legal observer as activists blocked traffic into Burning Man festival on the event’s first day open to the general public. The group blocked a main thoroughfare using a trailer, lock-ons, and banners with the words “BURNERS OF THE WORLD, UNITE!”, “ABOLISH CAPITALISM”, and “GENERAL STRIKE FOR CLIMATE”.
