Art in the Park Event Engages Mesa Residents to Create Art Installation for New City Hall and Take Part in Mesa History

Mesa residents will be able to collaborate in creating an art installation for the new City Hall. Art in the Park is a unique and interactive free event that brings art, crafts and music to our neighborhoods. The family-friendly events begin on Nov. 9, and will extend through March 2024 on select Thursdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Art in the Park encourages residents to leave their mark on the City's History by collaborating with artist Beth Nybeck to create a work of art for the new City Hall, leaving their mark on Mesa's history.

The sculpture, known as "Flip Side," will be an M-shaped wall containing more than 300 tiles.
One side will have a black and white photograph of a person, while the flip side will have a message from that person on a colorful tile to showcase the community's faces and voices.
The new artwork will be unveiled at the grand opening next fall and will be on display for up to a year.

Art in the Park is part of Together Mesa, an initiative launched in May 2022 that embraces our community's rich diversity and inspires residents to get involved in their local community. Together Mesa collects and showcases the voices that make Mesa, fostering awareness and understanding to strengthen us as a city.

WHO is artist Beth Nybeck??

She currently lives and works in Kansas City.

Beth Nybeck received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Northern Iowa.

She is a metal sculptor and public artist.

Nybeck bends and shapes large sheets of metal into abstract elegant sculpture. Her forms are inspired by the natural world.

You can often find Nybeck out in the middle of nature, transfixed by the small nuances she discovers.

She will point out how the dew hangs within a spider web, or the intricate pattern found on a decaying leaf, or how a field of wheat can look like the ocean on a particularly windy day.

You can see the power, grace, movement, and subtle nuances of nature within her artwork.
