What to Watch Today

U.S. stock markets were headed for a broadly positive open on Friday, with the technology sector particularly bright following well-received earnings from Meta Platforms and Amazon.

Attention will now turn to the January jobs report. The U.S. likely added 176,500 jobs in January, according to economists surveyed by FactSet, a decline from December’s 216,000-job gain.

Another strong jobs report would give the Federal Reserve further reason to consider delaying interest-rate cuts, after Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell pushed back against a March cut this week.

Meanwhile, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note is 3.884% early on Friday, broadly flat from the previous day.
