Coast Guard Academy Cadets disciplined for distributing answers to homework
The U.S. Coast Guard Academy held 55 Second Class cadets accountable after cadets distributed answers for two separate homework assignments via electronic means, in clear violation of Academy policy.
The details of each cadet’s involvement in this unauthorized collaboration were investigated and reviewed during a series of cadet disciplinary hearings held at the Academy. Individual misconduct varied amongst the 55 cadets and disciplinary actions were assigned on a case-by-case basis, according to their actions.

Disciplinary actions under the cadet regulations and academic consequences included:
- Six cadets failed the course and 48 cadets received lowered grades,
- 11 cadets were removed from their summer battalion command positions,
- 55 cadets will undergo a 20-week honor remediation program,
- 55 cadets were restricted to the Coast Guard Academy.
All cadets will be provided the opportunity to appeal disciplinary actions.
