Interpreting the Constitution for modern America is of course the divisive legal dilemma of the times, and retired Supreme Court justice Stephen Breyer tackles it head-on in his new book “Reading the Constitution,” which he speaks about with Walter Isaacson.
Florida has cleared the way for its six-week abortion ban to take effect. But, in a separate ruling, the state's supreme court justices are allowing the issue to be put to voters in November for a proposed constitutional amendment. Meanwhile, the U.S. Supreme Court, in its first abortion-related case since the overturning of Roe, appears skeptical of a nationwide ban on mifepristone, a drug used for medical abortions.
