Ukraine-NATO Council convenes emergency meeting on 19 April at Zelenskyy’s request
- Russia has intensified its shelling of Ukraine in recent weeks, making the strengthening of Ukrainian air defense a critical issue.
“The reality is that we have systems available. [The number] is big enough to enable us to give significantly more to Ukraine in terms of air defense in general and when it comes to Patriot batteries. And that is exactly what we are working on,” said Stoltenberg.
On 16 April, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he would request an urgent meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council to discuss the supply of weapons and air defense systems.

Rauch arrived in Kyiv together with a group of entrepreneurs who accompanied Robert Habeck, the vice-chancellor of Germany.
"Three of our systems are already in Ukraine, and more will be delivered this year. The next one is only a few weeks away," Helmut Rauch said in an interview for Bild.
The supply of air defenсe systems to Ukraine is now a key topic in Kyiv's conversations with its allies.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called on the G7 countries to follow the example of Germany and make a decision on the supply of additional air defence systems as soon as possible.
On 13 April, Germany announced the urgent transfer of a Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Ukraine.
German foreign and defence ministers, in a letter to dozens of countries, announced a global initiative on the search for additional air defence equipment for Ukraine.

Quote: "President Zelenskyy has asked for a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council. We will convene the meeting on Friday."
Details: Stoltenberg said the Ukraine-NATO Council will be held at defence minister level "to address the urgent needs for more support to Ukraine". Zelenskyy will also attend.
"In particular, I expect there will be a focus on air defence, but also on more artillery rounds, following up the Czech-initiative supported by Netherlands and Denmark," Stoltenberg added.
Previously: Zelenskyy stated after a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief that Western countries could help Ukraine defend itself from Russian attacks, just as they helped Israel to counteract Iranian attacks.
The White House has stated that the US has refused to take any part in hostilities in Ukraine, and for that reason it would not shoot down Iranian-made drones launched by Russia, as it and its allies did in Israel last weekend.

Quote from Syrskyi: "I’ve informed him [Cavoli – ed.] about the developments on the frontlines and Ukraine's urgent needs, particularly in modern air defense systems, artillery, ammunition, and heavy armored vehicles."
- strengthening military-technical cooperation with the United States and other allies,
- bolstering Ukrainian air defence capabilities, and
- replenishing ammunition.
"I’ve expressed gratitude to the United States and NATO partners for their support of Ukraine, especially in areas that currently have the greatest impact on strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities. The conversation took place, as always, in a friendly, constructive atmosphere. We continue our cooperation," concluded Syrskyi.
