SHARED MOBILITY MODEL >> WAYMO ONE Ride-Hailing App

Waymo’s shared mobility model means all-electric rides are available to everyone in our public service territories at the touch of a button, giving people new options for electrified transportation without needing to own an electric vehicle. As a result, Waymo is now preventing an estimated 135 tons of CO2 emissions weekly — a figure that’s ever-growing as we provide more trips.

Clean rides, clear benefits:
Waymo launches new public transit credit programWaymo One

The Waymo Team 17 October 2024

Now, we’re going even further. Starting today, Waymo One riders that connect to select transit stations in San Francisco and the Peninsula will receive a $3.00 credit on their Waymo account for use on future rides.

Credits will be applied to riders’ Waymo accounts when they take Waymo One to or from eligible Bay Area transit stations. This pilot program will run through November 15 and credits will be available for use until December 31, 2024.

A map of the eight, eligible Bay Area transit stations supporting this pilot program, including Colma, Daly City, Balboa Park, Glen Park, West Portal, Revere/Shafter, 22nd Street, 4th & King.

This pilot is an important step towards making clean transportation more accessible. Waymo will use these learnings to connect riders with public transit, making it easier for people to use both services to reach their destinations. This work is a key part of Waymo’s commitment to building a broader autonomous vehicle ecosystem — one that supports more walkable, bikeable, and transit-rich communities — so we can ultimately be a part of the sustainability solution in each city that we operate in.

"Connecting people with sustainable transportation is at the heart of Waymo's mission to build the world's most trusted driver," said Adam Lenz, Head of Sustainability and Environment at Waymo. "By offering electric rides on demand and improving access to public transit, Waymo One is making daily travel more sustainable and convenient. Our riders consistently tell us they value sustainability, and we're proud to offer it as a core benefit to the communities we serve."

We’ve also launched a new sustainability page which provides the latest information on Waymo’s environmental impact, and includes further details on the clean energy sources and providers that power Waymo’s shared all-electric mobility system. Our commitment to sourcing renewable energy from local energy suppliers including CleanPowerSF, Silicon Valley Clean Energy, the Salt River Project, Arizona Public Services, Austin Energy and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power allows us to make zero-emissions transportation a convenient choice for more people.

The reality is that our transportation systems require significant transformation; in the U.S., the transportation sector remains the leading producer of greenhouse gasses, accounting for 29% of domestically produced emissions. But the clean energy transition is one we can all take part in, and many of our riders already are. In a recent survey, 36% of San Francisco riders said they have used Waymo One to connect to other forms of clean transit, like BART, Muni, or Caltrain.

You can find out more about our sustainability work at waymo.com/sustainability. And if you’re not yet a Waymo One rider but would like to start earning transit credits in San Francisco and the Peninsula, simply download the Waymo One app to start hailing rides to eligible stations today.

SPAIN REJECTS EUROPEAN UNION'S 38% TARIFFS ON CHINESE EVs...In this video, we explore Spain’s unexpected decision to reject the European Union’s proposed 38% tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs), revealing growing divisions within the continent. While the EU aims to protect its automotive industry from the rising influence of Chinese EVs, Spain has chosen a different path, prioritizing its economic ties with China. With Spanish exports to China increasing by 12% in early 2024 and trade between the two nations surging, Spain is reshaping its foreign policy to preserve this crucial relationship. The stakes are high as Spain's automotive industry, the second largest in Europe, now faces new challenges amidst increased competition from Chinese EVs. Analysts argue that Spain’s decision may lead to short-term gains but could expose the country to long-term risks, including disruptions in its agricultural sector, which heavily depends on exports to China. We examine the broader implications of this move for Europe’s automotive sector, Spain’s rural economy, and the EU’s relationship with China. How will Spain’s choice to prioritize trade with China impact its standing within the EU? Could this decision trigger a larger divide within Europe, with other nations rethinking their economic policies toward China? Join us for an in-depth look at the potential fallout from Spain’s decision and what it means for the future of Europe’s industrial competitiveness, trade policies, and global alliances.
