The Week in Review
Happy Friday! I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 118th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week. Biden-Harris DHS Advertising Campaign Demonstrates Continued Pattern of Putting Illegal Aliens Over Americans I introduced the No Funding for Illegal Migrant Billboards Act, legislation to prohibit federal funds from being used to publicly advertise the functions of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of the Immigration Detention Ombudsman (OIDO). Recently, DHS-funded billboards advertising “rights” for individuals in immigration custody” have been spotted in Arizona and Texas, drawing massive public scrutiny—one U.S. Border Patrol agent called the billboards “a slap in the face to all Americans.” These taxpayer-funded billboards are further evidence of the Biden-Harris Administration’s preference for putting the interests of illegal aliens ahead of U.S. citizens. The No Funding for Illegal Migrant Billboards Act would ensure that Americans’ taxpayer dollars are not used to further erode the immigration system upon which the Biden-Harris Administration has already wreaked havoc. I also a letter to Michelle BranĂ©, Director of OIDO, demanding that she answer pressing questions relating to the billboards, such as the total amount spent on the billboards and the duration of the billboard campaign. That DHS is spending taxpayer dollars to further exacerbate the Harris-Biden regime’s border crisis is abhorrent and must not be tolerated. This Administration has made a mockery of our immigration system for years. They have illegally undermined federal law at every turn, creating pathway after pathway for illegal entry without the authority to do so. Congress must, for once, honor our constitutional duty to check the Administration with the power of the purse.
I’m thankful for the support of my colleagues and urge House Leadership to immediately bring this legislation to the Floor upon our return to Washington, DC. The legislation may be read here. Congressman Biggs’s letter to Director BranĂ© may be read here. Working to Free Companies From the Chokehold of the Harris-Biden Regime’s Woke Social Priorities I introduced the Stop Woke Investing Act, legislation promoting corporate America’s return to the free exchange of ideas. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has broad power to dictate what shareholder proposals a public company must consider. Under the Harris-Biden regime, the SEC has severely limited the ability of companies to exclude radical ESG proposals, like requiring companies to conduct “racial equity audits” or to set mandates to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, that are detrimental to a company’s financial responsibilities to their shareholders. Actions from this Administration have forced companies to include controversial policies that are of little to no value to their business operations and accomplish nothing other than serving a woke social agenda. Kamala Harris and Joe Biden have weaponized every aspect of the federal government to punish those who refuse to cower in the face of their radical priorities. My legislation would: - Allow businesses to reject frivolous shareholder proposals unrelated to the financial success of the company.
- Limit the amount of proposals on which a company is permitted to vote, encouraging the prioritization of proposals that advance shareholder interests.
Woke activism shouldn’t be placed ahead of the profitability of a public company. Businesses should not be enslaved to radical ESG priorities that pull attention away from their fiduciary responsibilities. Focusing on woke policies only serves to harm businesses, investors, and the American economy. Congress must continue fighting the weaponization of the Harris-Biden regime and its push to radicalize Americans’ day-to-day lives. I’m thankful for the support of my colleagues and for Senator Eric Schmitt’s (R-MO) leadership on this issue in the Senate. The legislation may be read here. Breitbart covered the legislation here. Demanding Accountability for FAA’s Apparent Failure to Maintain Operable Surveillance Cameras at Our Southern Border I led a letter to Michael G. Whitaker, Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), regarding FAA’s failure to repair inoperable surveillance cameras along the southwestern border of the United States. Recent reports indicate that nearly a third of Border Patrol’s surveillance cameras—roughly 150 out of 500—are inoperable and unable to detect illegal aliens crossing the southern border. An internal Border Patrol memo from early October blames the significant number of camera outages on antiquated equipment and FAA’s failure to perform adequate maintenance. My letter demands transparency from Whitaker regarding the breakdown in maintaining operable cameras used by Border Patrol agents in their mission to keep Americans safe. This rogue Administration’s failure to ensure that Border Patrol has the resources necessary to protect Americans from illegal aliens flooding our borders is reprehensible. Not only does the radical Left incentivize mass illegal immigration, it impedes—whether out of malice or by negligence—Border Patrol’s efforts to perform its duties. It’s unacceptable. Harris and Biden’s cronies must provide adequate answers to our pressing questions and prove that they are actively taking steps to remedy their failures. The letter may be read here.
